A soccer talent search that covered all ten regions of Ghana and had over 2000 young players under 17 fighting their way through preliminary rounds to be among the top 20 players in the country is receiving major attention from top clubs in Europe.

The successful ones who went through intense training under the supervision of former national football star coach Mohammed Polo and his technical team are said to be on the verge of achieving their dreams of playing for premier clubs in Europe. Three players from the squad have completed successful trails in England and currently in negotiations with Portsmouth & Newcastle for their signatures.

Saturn Moscow are close to locking up a deal with four other players from the squad with Atletico Madrid & Hertha Berlin offering places for five more according to Kingsley Pungong of WMG, one of the leading sports marketing and management groups in the world. WMG are famous for managing the likes Steve Gerrald, Micheal Owen, Freddy Adu, Andrily Shevchenko, Emile Hersky, Alan Shearer and Bobby Charlton.

The group includes UK’s top agent Tony Stevens who was responsible for David Beckham.” We heard about this excellent concept of unearthing talents in Africa and thought it would be a good idea to partner and bring on board WMG’s wide contact network in sports marketing to Ghana. We have been highly impressed by the technical ability and skill level of the lads at the academy and think the future looks very bright for these players. Most of these players we are confident can just walk into any premier academy in Europe.”

In August The Golden Foot Stars who have locked down a kit sponsorship deal with Nike Europe will honour an invitation to lock horns with the youth sides of Barcelona and Real Madrid in a special friendly.

“This is a golden opportunity for the young and unknown players to showcase their skills to the world according to Mike Cooke, executive producer and brain behind the Goldenfoot programme. “ I think Mohammed Polo has done a fantastic job with these kids and has set the pace for youth football development in Ghana.

I am convinced every single member of this group will end up as a world class talent in the next few years.
