Political development in Ghana so far

Sat, 23 Oct 2010 Source: Lamptey, Alfred

Political development is the necessary condition to the development of every

state, and therefore the development of Ghana must not be taken in the shallow

terms but development of the political sphere must also be taken into

consideration. The signs of political development of this country can be seen in

different levels – the respect of the population and human rights, respect to

the level of the governmental and general systematic performance and also

respect to the organization of the polity, with political development there must

be development in the greater capacity in the political system to manage public

affairs, control controversy or cope with popular demand.

Some features of political development is the existence of specialize extinct

governmental institutions and these institutions must be guided by rationality

and efficiency in order to carry out functions of the government. The

governmental institutions in the country can help to bring about political

development if only it is guided by its rationality and efficiency.

Critical political development is the judicious using our country’s resources to

bring development and it is it is crucial to the state and so therefore politics

plays a crucial role here as far as development is concern. The development of

the state rest significantly on the function of the political system of the

country. There must be extensive capability in the political system, this refers

to the capacity of the political system of the country to respond to the demands

of the citizens and bring development also.

Taking the respect of the population and human rights is a major element of

political development; this is when the political institutions of the country

take the population into consideration when enacting any policies. The

population is the holder of sovereignty in very state and Ghana is not excluded,

therefore the population can not be ignored in the policies making that will

bring about political development. The views of the population must be heard by

the policy makers and the relevant points taken into consideration in order for

the population views to be respected in the country. The human rights of the

citizens must also be respected in all spheres and making sure that this goes in

accordance with the constitution.

Respect to the level of the governmental and general systematic performance and

also respect to the organization of the polity is another element that can never

be ignored as far as the political development of this country is concerned, the

governmental performance must be respected by both the government and the

governed in the country, that is the same way the government must also respect

the performance of the social organization within the country and this

performance of the social organization must be in line with the fundamental laws

of the country. There must also be a free and open media, when the media is

given the free space to operate there shall also be development but the media

must also make sure that they must also bring out the truth.

Further emphasis should be on the respect of the constitution, the constitution

must be respect on all grounds no matter the type of political development that

want to be in the country and also in the making of policies the constitution

should be the base.

The governmental institutions of the country have done very well, and in order

to reach the highest level of political development both the government and the

governed must not be weary in the performance of their duties.
