Galamsey - A stupid comfort for human ultimate destruction

When a State has weak leadership that prioritises political idiosyncrasies benefiting patronage and sycophants, and people who benefit from 'stupid' comfort, alongside widespread institutional leadership failures to protect what is humanity in terms of common sense, then one landmark struggle to condemn the current and future of society will surely be galamsey. 

Certainly galamsey has become a development "cancer" wrecking the life, health, wealth, hope, aspirations, and future of Ghana simply because everyone of us is jointly boxed into what Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer summarised as people with complicit evil allowing their critical faculties not to function as human beings and hanging themselves under the overwhelming power and propaganda of changing regimes with different slogans that fundamentally end up worsening situations from point A to point B. 

Under Dietrich Bonhoeffer's theory of stupidity from his prison cell in a German concentration camp, he noted "that stupidity is a more dangerous enemy of the good than malice, not an intellectual failing, but a socially conditioned moral blindness where individuals surrender critical thought to power structures, propaganda, and slogans, becoming immune to reason and facts.

It's a willful or ingrained refusal to think independently, making people susceptible to manipulation and dangerous in positions of power because it lacks the recognisable boundaries of evil, allowing it to wreak havoc unchecked."

The Nazis' destruction in the 20th century in the 1930s and 1940s, orchestrated by crafty Adolf Hitler in a silently stupid society, is not different from galamsey in Ghana in today's 21st century, barely 100 years apart. Both have a common currency: human destruction! To me, the combined negative effect of the holocaust in Germany and galamsey in Ghana far exceeds what the slave trade caused the world. 

Today, many land portions can never be occupied by humanity in Germany because of the acts of the Nazis. Up-to-date water is a rare commodity in Germany. That explains why beer consumption is high because that is what was developed to keep the silent, stupid people alive after humanity rose up against orchestrated, programmed evil with the support of a 'thinking world'.

Many huge skeletal structures are still occupying spaces in Germany to date, that with all their technology and advancement in knowledge and research, have not been able to put them into meaningful use simply because of the havoc it will cause humanity if any attempt is made to reconstruct those spaces.

The cancer at that time caused by a stupid silent society is still mutating and remains medically untreatable up to today and the future till thy Kingdom comes. 

Galamsey is our holocaust. The question is for how long can we be "willful" and "ingrained" in refusing to "think independently" as humans with conscience, leading us "susceptible to manipulation" and "dangerous in positions of power" lacking discerning and "recognisable  boundaries of evil", and eventually allowing our being to be wrecked in havoc unchecked?

For how long further can we allow the changing faces of political leadership followed by its babies with institutional mandates create powers to corrupt, cause grandeur timidity and stupefy the silent society into weapons of mass destruction against our own aspirations and hopes for a better Ghana as we choose "comfortable" but stupid "conformity" over and above rising up to the difficult task of "challenging truth". 

Germany had the support of a people who stood up to say enough of the stupidity, time to act to save humanity for a collective global development. I am not sure Ghana can have that global support to fight the galamsey holocaust for us. This means we must take our destiny into our own hands and fight this canker, wreaking havoc on every aspect of our lives. 

Where do we begin? Who to stand up as the David and the Bonhoeffers to bring the consciousness of Ghanaians back to a normal common sense devoid of political and comfort stupidity? Who shall be meaningful in putting his or her political life online? 

In the midst of these merry-go-round political football games, one thing is for sure: galamsey is a holocaust and a ticking bomb to explode. And whether we deal with it head-on or not, some of its ramifications in our life, health, ecosystem, etc., have become a mutating cancer that we will never diagnose or have the prescription for.

With all rivers virtually dead, all forests now a muddy pinch, children born with deformities, and mountains now eyesore whilst our leaders give political slogans with malice and corruption, Pastors, Imams, and their congregations pray without action, chiefs in palanquins dancing to kete and fontofrom and enstooling foreigners in the name of development.

Labour associations dancing to the mutating effects of how to get enhanced daily wage which ultimately is used to buy poisoned water and agricultural foods, some security forces cowed into political expediency and share of corrupt booties, foreign interests of gaining upper cut to control our natural resources, CSOs pitching camps to enrich their pockets, and youth terminally focusing on betting to get some coins to survive on, etc., we have all become dead on arrival. It's a matter of the time we will arrive.

Germany is our greatest ally to learn from on these holocaustic activities, sentencing humanity to its destruction. 

Yes, galamsey is our holocaust crystallised by human beings who are petty in our stupid comfort against our collective destruction.

Virtually, every development infrastructure is getting a pinch of the galamsey holocaust. Our dams, roads, bridges, educational facilities, sporting edifices, Chief Palaces, security zones, churches, mosques, cables and pipes, railway lines, protected lands and forest zones, etc., are all crying for help and can this comfortable, stupid society ever ready to give ears to them? 

Oh mother Ghana, what have you done to your children to destroy you in this gargantuan glamour of shame without a future?
