It is a pity why you take economists as the targets of your opinion piece. The views expressed in this piece applies to all technical writing. Because all such writing must: introduce the reader to the issue, followed by relevant analysis based on logic, theory and data, a conclusion based on the analysis. As an economist by training and profession, I have another problem with the wild generalisations about economists such as: "tendency among economists is to view writing as secondary to analysis", and " many economists write as if their audience already agrees on why the topic matters". A piece, supposed about what constitutes proper writing has fallen rather short by not being coherent and also by unsupported generalisations.
