His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama, launched the Free Primary Healthcare on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the Shai Osudoku Municipal Hospital.

The launch brought together stakeholders, health personnel, the media and residents of the municipality to witness the government's dedication and commitment to investing in the health sector.

This initiative seeks to shift the narrative of health administration in Ghana from sick care to healthcare. This social intervention program by the Mahama administration will remove financial barriers to achieving universal health coverage.

While free healthcare was being launched in Dodowa, the capital town of the Shai Osudoku District Assembly in the Greater Accra Region, the Information Services Department (ISD) was bringing the program live to people across the country through its new LED Digital Vans.

From the lorry station in the Ahafo Region to the Upper East Region, and from Kotokuraba Market in the Central Region to the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, and from various vantage points across the country, traders, drivers, passengers and everyone around the vans had the opportunity to share in the good news from His Excellency, President John Mahama.

Some people who watched the program live on the screens of the ISD digital vans expressed their excitement afterward, while others praised President Maham and his administration for the good initiative and asked questions.

The ISD officers provided the people around the vans with information about the initiative and assured them that there would be further public education on free primary healthcare.

In all, the citizens are grateful to the President and the government for this initiative to cushion the NHIS and their joy was evident as they watched the live broadcast on the screens of the ISD Digital Vans while they went about their various businesses.
