Why the backlash over Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams presence at Mahama Ayariga’s vetting?

Are we also aware that the National Chief Imam was represented by his spokesperson and that traditional leaders were equally present?

This is simply because Mahama Ayariga is being vetted as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs. The very institutions represented at the vetting fall directly within the stakeholder groups the Ministry is expected to engage and superintend.

Duncan-Williams was therefore not there as a political affiliate or in some personal capacity. He was there as a representative of the Christian community, just as the Chief Imam’s spokesperson represented the Muslim community and the chiefs represented traditional authority.

We should be careful not to manufacture political meaning where the institutional context is obvious. Not every appearance around a politician is an endorsement. Sometimes, it is simply representation.
