The traditional path to success for many young Ghanaians has been clear: obtain an education, secure a job and build a career. While that path remains valuable, the digital economy is creating new opportunities for young people to build skills, businesses and income streams beyond the traditional workplace.
Technology and finance creator Stanley Obeng Twene, popularly known as StanleoFX, believes Ghana’s youth must increasingly embrace digital skills and value creation.
“The goal should not simply be to find a job. We should also learn how to create value, build businesses and use technology to create opportunities for ourselves and others.”
According to StanleoFX, access to a smartphone and the internet can become a starting point for learning skills such as artificial intelligence, graphic design, programming, digital marketing, content creation, e-commerce and financial education.
However, he stresses that technology alone is not enough.
“Having a smartphone is not the same as having a digital skill. The real opportunity is learning how to use technology to solve problems and create value,” he said.
Financial literacy, he adds, should also become an important part of youth development. Young people need to understand earning, saving, managing and growing money, particularly when exploring areas such as forex and cryptocurrency, where opportunities come with significant risks.
The rapid growth of artificial intelligence is also changing the way people work. StanleoFX encourages young Africans to learn how to use AI responsibly to improve productivity, creativity and business operations.
He does not argue that every young person must become an entrepreneur. Instead, he advocates continuous learning and the development of adaptable skills that can complement formal education.
For Ghana’s next generation, the question may therefore extend beyond “Where can I find a job?”
It can also be:
“What can I learn, build or create that solves a real problem?”
For StanleoFX, this shift from simply seeking employment to creating value represents an important part of Ghana’s emerging digital future.
