The life and legacy of a remarkable Ghanaian patriarch, Kofi Sarfo Assiamah, will be celebrated at a grand funeral ceremony in Denkyira Dominase in the Central Region from October 30 to November 1, 2026.

Sarfo Assiamah, father of former Transport Minister Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025, after a short illness.

His passing brought to an end a remarkable life defined by service, generosity, discipline and an enduring commitment to the welfare of others.

For those who knew him, Kofi Sarfo Assiamah was much more than a father and patriarch. He was a man whose influence extended well beyond the boundaries of his immediate family.

His benevolence extended to close and distant relatives, friends, acquaintances and numerous people who had no blood relationship with him but found in him a father, mentor, benefactor and source of hope.

His was a life that touched many lives.

From the classroom to the military and business

Kofi Sarfo Assiamah lived a life of several chapters, each marked by service and impact.

He began his professional journey as a teacher, contributing to the development of young minds before subsequently serving in the Ghana Armed Forces, where he rose to the rank of an Army General.

He also played a pioneering role during the formative years of the Social Security Bank, now SGSSB, where he worked as a marketing operative and later rose to become Director of the Consumer Credit Department.

His journey later took him into the world of business, where he continued to build relationships, create opportunities and support people around him.

Across these different phases of his life, one quality remained constant: his willingness to give and his desire to see others succeed.

His generosity was not restricted to those closest to him. Several people who benefited from his kindness and support went on to achieve significant milestones in their own lives, carrying with them the imprint of a man who believed that success was most meaningful when it could be used to lift others.

Among those whose lives were profoundly influenced by his benevolence is Charles Kenneth Sarfo, Chief Executive Officer of Royal Dutch Pharmaceuticals, who is also Sarfo Assiamah’s maternal nephew.

For Sarfo Assiamah’s family and the many people whose lives he touched, his passing therefore represents the departure not simply of a relative, but of a pillar whose presence provided strength, direction and opportunity to generations.

A patriarch leaves a legacy

Kofi Sarfo Assiamah is survived by his wife, Madam Dora Assiamah; his children; grandchildren; and a wide circle of relatives and loved ones.

His children and other close relatives include Peter A. Ashman (Kwaku Addai-deceased), Kwaku Ofori Asiamah (Former Transport Minister), Patricia Assiamah Aidoo (SSNIT Pension House, Accra), Dorothy Opare Akrofi (Maame Saah), Gifty Afua Assiamah, Papa Yaw Adu Acheampong (Technology & Energy, USA/Accra), Kofi Assiamah Junior (Ashie, USA), Sylvia Adjoa Assiamah Akumia (deceased), Kofi Sarfo Assiamah (Pharmacist, USA), Pearl Rosalyn Nana Akua Asiedua Assiamah (Prudential Bank, Accra), Kwame Arkoh Assiamah (Kuehne & Nagel, Canada), Nana Akosua Asantewaa Assiamah Owusu (Accra), Kate Maame Ama Ayemedua Assiamah (USA/Accra), Kwaku Kyere Assiamah (Morningstar, Chicago), Samuel Kwabena Nkrumah (Ghana Police Service, Techiman), Christopher Takyi (Koantwi Mining Company), Roy Addai Boateng, Kojo Oduro Bonsu, Akyere Oduro Bonsu, Akua Nyantakyiwaa Oduro, Akwasi Adoma, Akua Addai, Yaw Dankwa, Sofo Maame Rita Addae, Ernest Ohemeng, and other brothers and sisters.

Beyond his biological children and grandchildren, however, many others regarded him as a father and, through his influence and generosity, were able to navigate life’s difficult paths.

Some even chose to name their children after him — a testament to the depth of affection and gratitude he inspired in people who crossed his path.

A gathering of dignitaries

The funeral is expected to bring together family, friends, traditional leaders, political figures, business leaders, members of the clergy and well-wishers from across Ghana.

Among the distinguished personalities who have accepted invitations to attend are former President John Agyekum Kufuor, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former Vice President and NPP Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

Others include former National Security Minister Hon. Kan Dapaah; former Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare; the Clerk of Parliament, Ebenezer Jethro; as well as a significant number of Members of Parliament from both sides of the political divide who have consented to attend.

Former Ministers of State in the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration are also expected to be in attendance.

Members of the Masonic fraternity and lodge to which the deceased belonged are also expected to attend in their numbers to honour a departed brother and celebrate his life, fraternity and enduring bonds of fellowship.

Their presence will add another significant dimension to a funeral that promises to bring together people from different walks of life who share one thing in common — the memory of a man who gave much of himself to others.

Three days to celebrate a remarkable life

The funeral activities will officially commence on Friday, October 30, 2026, with the main funeral gathering in Denkyira Dominase.

A private burial service will take place on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Denkyira Dominase, followed by the final funeral rites at the same location.

The funeral will conclude with a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, November 1, 2026, also at Denkyira Dominase.

For the family, these ceremonies will provide an opportunity not merely to mourn, but to celebrate a life that was lived generously and purposefully.

Kofi Sarfo Assiamah may have taken his final bow, but the measure of a life is not only in the years spent on earth. It is also in the lives changed, hands lifted, opportunities created and memories left behind.

And in the lives of his children, grandchildren, relatives, friends and the many people who benefited from his kindness, his story continues.

Denkyira Dominase will therefore not simply host a funeral. It will host a celebration of a life of service, sacrifice and benevolence a fitting farewell to a patriarch whose greatest legacy may be found in the many people who became better because he lived.
