John Boadu is the NPP National Chairman
My boss, John Boadu,
Your story is a powerful reminder that when you serve faithfully and conscientiously, your reward may be delayed, but your contribution will never be forgotten.
Today, like never before, I celebrate you, my boss, mentor, political father and National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). I celebrate not just another year in your life, but an extraordinary political journey defined by service, loyalty, sacrifice, resilience and an unwavering commitment to the Danquah-Dombo-Busia tradition.
Uncle John, your journey is one that every dedicated party member must reflect upon. For more than three decades, you have devoted your life to the NPP, serving at virtually every level of the Party, from the polling station to the constituency, regional and national levels.
From your early days as a young activist in the Danquah-Busia Club to your service as National Finance Officer, National Youth Treasurer, Deputy National Communications Director, National Youth Organizer, National Organizer, Director of Campaign Operations and, ultimately, General Secretary, your record reflects a lifetime of commitment to the Party.
Your contribution to the NPP’s electoral fortunes is equally significant. Ahead of the 2016 general elections, at a time when the Party was grappling with a serious internal crisis, you assumed multiple responsibilities, helping to coordinate the Party’s structures and campaign operations. The NPP subsequently secured a historic presidential victory, winning by more than one million votes and gaining 55 parliamentary seats from the NDC.
In 2020, you again played a significant role in the Party’s campaign. Your contributions included the Adopt-a-Polling-Station and Constituency initiative and the implementation of the Pink Sheet Tracking System, which enabled the Party to collate results from approximately 38,000 polling stations in less than 12 hours.
Beyond elections, you worked to strengthen the Party's structures, support constituency and regional executives, improve grassroots financing and promote youth participation. These are important chapters in your political legacy.
Yet, despite this remarkable record, 2022 brought disappointment. At the National Delegates Conference, you sought a renewed mandate as General Secretary, but the delegates chose Lawyer Justin Kodua Frimpong to succeed you. For someone who had invested so much of his life, energy and personal sacrifice in the Party, the outcome could understandably have felt like a rejection of years of dedicated service.
But you did not abandon the Party. You did not allow disappointment to become bitterness, nor did you permit an electoral setback to weaken your commitment to the NPP. You remained active in Party affairs, continued representing the Party in the media, and subsequently served as a Senior Campaign Aide to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the 2024 presidential campaign.
For me, this is one of the most instructive aspects of your journey. Loyalty is easy to profess when everything is going well; however, its true meaning becomes evident when circumstances do not favour you. Your continued service after 2022 demonstrated that your commitment to the NPP extended beyond the office you occupied.
Four years ago, when you lost your re-election bid as General Secretary, I wrote an open letter to you titled "You Served Your Party Well, and History Will Be Kind to You." I reminded you that you had paid your dues to the Party and that your contributions could not be erased by a single electoral outcome. I also expressed confidence that you would continue to make your experience available to the Party and support your successor.
Today, I look back at those words I authored in 2022 with immense satisfaction and gratitude to Almighty Allah, to whom all honor is due.
On the 3rd day of October 2026, you staged a remarkable comeback, contested for the National Chairmanship and emerged victorious at the NPP’s National Delegates Conference. The man who lost his bid for a renewed mandate as General Secretary in 2022 has returned four years later to assume the responsibility of National Chairman.
What a journey! What a lesson in perseverance! What a powerful reminder of the enduring value of service!
Your story reinforces a lesson that every NPP member, particularly the young people who continue to invest their time and energy in the Party, must appreciate that in the NPP, you may serve faithfully without receiving immediate recognition or reward.
There may be moments when you feel overlooked, unappreciated or disappointed by the very institution to which you have given your best. You may even begin to question whether your sacrifices have been worthwhile. But your journey teaches us that a setback need not mark the end of the road, and that losing one opportunity does not mean losing every opportunity.
Your experience does not guarantee that every loyal member will eventually receive a higher office. Rather, it demonstrates that the absence of immediate reward should not cause us to undervalue the importance of faithful service, perseverance and commitment to a worthy cause. Sometimes, the opportunity we lose today may give way to a different and even greater responsibility tomorrow.
Uncle John, your comeback is more than a personal achievement. It is a powerful reminder that faithful service may not be rewarded immediately, but perseverance keeps the door open for greater opportunities.
Your longstanding relationship with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, dating back to 2008, and your experience in Party administration will be invaluable as you lead the NPP towards 2028. My prayer is that Almighty Allah grants you wisdom, strength and good health to unite the Party, inspire the grassroots and lead with fairness and purpose.
Personally, I remain grateful for your mentorship and the opportunity you gave me and many young people to serve the Party. The lessons you taught us about loyalty, sacrifice and commitment will remain with us forever.
In 2022, you lost the General Secretary position; in 2026, you returned as National Chairman. Your journey is a testament to resilience and the enduring value of service. Four years ago, I said history and posterity would be kind to you. Today, I celebrate your remarkable comeback with renewed confidence in those words.
Four years ago, when I wrote to you, Uncle John, I had worked with you since 2016 as your Aide and Press Assistant, but I was not yet a lawyer. Today, by the grace of Almighty Allah, I write to celebrate you as a lawyer myself, reflecting on your remarkable journey from the disappointment of 2022 to the historic comeback of 2026.
Having witnessed your leadership and benefited from your mentorship, this moment is deeply personal to me. Life has a beautiful way of bringing our stories full circle.
Happy birthday once again, Uncle John. May history and posterity continue to be kind to you, and may Allah bless your new chapter with greater accomplishments.
Assalamu alaik.
