The Rawlings Factor-A Common Sense Positive Approach

Fri, 8 Apr 2011 Source: Otabil, Kofi

There has been a lot of euphoria about the influence or otherwise of the Rawlings’ factor

within the Ghanaian politics for the past 30 years.

Timeline:

May15 1979:- Captured after an abortive coup; owned up after the botched attempt.

June 4 1979:- Released from prison to head the military junta (June 4 1979-September 1979).

December 31, 1981-January 6 1993:- Led Military government (PNDC)

January 7 1993-January 6 2000: Led civilian government (NDC)

Rawlings tasted power for the first at the age of 32. He was 35 when the PNDC government

took over the reins of government.

CONTEXTUAL FRAME WORK

He sacrificed his life (for a better expression) to successfully overthrow a government.

The (P)NDC came into being on the life and blood of a 35 year old man who ventured to be

different.

After 19 years in active politics he retires at the middle age of 54; when some were now

dreaming to start their journey.

CRITICAL QUESTION

How do you effectively manage Rawlings who has been very active from his youth and still

has fire in his bones?

MY NON-PARTISAN CUM COMMONSENSE SOLUTION

Keep him very busy with a new passion to develop new interest and new focus

Let him know that he’s still the top dog

Be bold to celebrate him as the founder

Build a monument to preserve his legacy

Give him a new name “THE OLD WISE ONE”

RESULTS

Peace of mind!!!
