Dear Sir,
OPEN LETTER TO THE MAYOR OF ACCRA: FINANCIAL LOSS TO RESIDENTS AND THREATS TO LIFE AND PROPERTY IN AYAWASO WEST WUOGON CONSTITUENCY.
I write to openly complain about the neglect of duty by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly and the Urban Roads department, which has resulted in financial loss to residents and serious threats to life and property in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency.
1. Threat to Health:
For the past three years, residents of Dzorwulu have inhaled and continue to inhale large amounts of dust as a result of construction of a (small) one kilometre road in the community. The continuous inhalation of dust has left many elderly and children with chest and respiratory infections. According to the contractor, funds have not been made available to him to enable him to complete the works, which could have taken a maximum of ten weeks. You would agree there is no justification for this state of affair. I entreat you to urgently liaise with the urban roads to release the funds for completion of the road.
2. Threats to Life and Property: Floods.
As you are aware, construction of ongoing drainage works linked to the N1 Road Construction that runs through the Dzorwulu Community, is planned to terminate at the Valley View Clinic junction.
Please be advised, that the drains under constructing form part of the natural course of the Onyansa River. Should the construction terminate in the middle of the way, you would directly and indirectly be putting hundreds of families and household lives in harms way, as flow at the end of the construction would not go through any pipe under the road, an obvious condition for floods, with the attendant loss of life and property.
Again, I entreat you to collaborate with the urban roads and the Millennium Development Authority, who are financing the Construction of the drainage system, to have it extended to flow into the Onyansa River, before the next rainfall season.
3. Closure of the GIMPA - Legon Bypass Road.
A journey that normally takes approximately 30 minutes, in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, now takes about three hours, due to the closure of this all important bypass, without creating an alternative, even if it is temporary. For every day the GIMPA-Legon bypass road remain closed, residents and other motorists driving through the constituency waste over three hours of productive time in traffic, apart from the fuel they burn. As Mayor of the “Millennium City of Accra”, what are you doing to address these problems in the Awawaso West Wuogon Constituency?
