A group within the ruling National Democratic Congress in the Volta Region claims the unprovoked media attacks on and constant vilification of the former Honorary Vice Consul of Austria to Ghana, Alfred Agbesi Woyome, is being orchestrated by the Akufo-Addo New Patriotic Party (NPP) and their surrogates in the ruling party including a Deputy Minister of Information. This group by the name Volta Regional NDC Youth for Action is miffed against Deputy Information Minister Okudzeto Ablakwah for failing to defend Alfred Agbesi Woyome in the Woyomegate scandal. At a press conference held in Accra, the group said;
"We, the people of the Volta Region have observed with deep pain the unprovoked media attacks, deliberately orchestrated by the Nana Akuffo Addo led NPP and their surrogates in the NDC to vilify a patriotic son of the Volta Region, Mr Alfred Agbesi Woyome. Indeed the silence of the Okudzeto led Information Ministry is too loud and suspicious. " We the people of the Volta region pay glowing tribute to Mr Alfred Woyome for being a successful business man and a politician who have time without number made our region proud both at the national and the international scene. It is our hope that he will continue to take care of the poor and help the needy in the region. We call on the leadership of the NPP to offer an unqualified apology to Mr Alfred Woyome for victimizing him and his business partners during the NPP 8YEARS RULE."
Waow!!!, this group has a lot of cojones to tell the good people of Ghana that, Alfred Agbesi Woyome is a businessman and a patriotic citizen because he is one of them. What has he done for volta region if I may ask? What kind of businessman is this Woyome? A lot has been said about this man but little is known about him apart from him being a former deputy Consul to Austria. The man has a very thin resume because he has not engaged in many legitimate business enterprises apart from using his connections in NDC to amass wealth. A comment by Mr Mensah Abrampah summed up my feelings on this group.

"Ghana will only succeed as a nation if we all put Ghana first above everything else. No regional,tribal or political interest should supercede that of Ghana. This is not the Republic of Ghana versus the Volta Region but protecting all ghanaians including the people of the volta region against special interests, corruption and ineptitude. I hope this you are writing on your own behalf but not for the good people of the volta region as you claim. A united Ghana is better for everyone."
What is this group expecting Okudzeto Ablakwa to do for Woyome? We have three substantive individuals at the Ministry of Information, the Minister himself, Tia, Baba Jamal and Ablakwa so why is this group not upset with the two others, Tia and Jamal but Ablakwa? Is it because Ablakwa is an Ewe he is supposed to tow the 'Nyebroism' ideology? Anyway who told this group the information ministry is there to defend individuals who have found themselves afoul of the law? The ministry main function is to disseminate government policies to the masses and not to defend or become the spokesmen of Woyome.
This group spokesman, a sprat by the name Agbe Mawunyo solecism has to be condemned by all peace loving Ghanaians in general especially the Ewes from dragging the name of Volta region into this Woyome sordid affair. This sprat have the nerve to gasconade;
"Again we call on Mr. Samuel Okudzeto to offer a public apology to the President for embarrassing him publicly. It is strange Okudzeto claims to be loyal to the President yet refuse to allow the Government communication team to openly defend the stance of the President. Why does he not want Woyome who has won a court judgment to be defended publicly? Whose interest is Okudzeto serving, NPP or the president and the NDC?"
Mr Mawunyo, Okudzeto is not being paid by Woyome, NDC, Volta Region or NPP, Okudzeto is drawing paycheck from all Ghanaians and I don't want to see him defending a guy who has colluded with some people to dupe Ghanaian taxpayers to the tune of thirty five million dollars, where is your morals, Mr Mawunyo? Maybe you don't have a job, why don't you offer yourself to Woyome to become his spokesman, it seems to me you have the needed qualification, NO MORALS, to defend a thief.
Mawunyo thinks it's 'a la mode' to mount a podium and defend Woyome in this scandal because it will sell in volta region, unfortunately for Mawunyo and his group of "UNBINS", judging by the comments made at Peacefm forum where Mr Mawunyo's sophomoric vituperations received a lot of coverage, more than 90% of the Ewes who where among the more than hundred people who commented on his logorrhea even parted ways with him because they know Woyome's looting did not benefit Volta region in anyway. While President Mills has his right hand out looking to China to give us money to start the Universities at Volta and Brong Ahafo regions universities, his left hand has a cheque of 35 million dollars handing it over to Woyome. WHAT A COUNTRY, What a banana Republic this administration is turning Ghana into. A country where loans have now become an achievement, oh! Lordy!
It really 'gladened' my heart to see most Voltarians speaking against this group and telling Mawunyo and his members that, his group does not represent the voice of Voltarians in the Woyome saga. Most of the Voltarians comments were just like this one from a guy named Koku Ahiabu
Name: Koku Ahiabu Most at imes I feel like hiding my identity as a Voltarian,because of the senseless support we give to our people no matter how wrong they are.The President cut sod to open a University in the Volta Region and because of lack of fund the project has not seen the ligtht and we are organising a press conference to defend somebody getting $58million on the silver platter.The court are there if Woyome has documents to prove his case, let him do that at the law court.
I am really impressed with the position most Voltarians have taken on this Woyome issue. We are all learning that, if Kofi Poku or Woyome steals our money, he will use it to take care of his family and whether he is an Asante or an Ewe, it does not help the tribe as a whole. The year 2012 has started on a positive note by the stand my Voltarian brothers and sisters have taken on this Woyome saga and I hope it will be a good example for others to emulate.
