Obsession Will Cost Akufo-Addo The Presidency

Ghanaians should get this straight! Akufo-Addo is in a state of extreme obsession! And his obsession seems unabated. And this NPP presidential candidate seems hell bent on being the next president of Ghana come what may. As a result, Akufo-Addo’s mind is totally and devotedly preoccupied about nothing else than to be sworn-in as the next president of the land.

When somebody takes his/her obsession for something to the extreme, people should pause for concern. In the advanced world, Akufo-Addo’s behavioral traits would be closely monitored. Because should what Akufo-Addo is thinking does not materialize on December 7, 2012, nobody knows what would happen to him. That is why it is very important that paramedics are put on extreme alert around wherever Akufo-Addo may be on December 7, 2012.

Akufo-Addo and the NPP folks believe they are the legit rulers of Ghana, therefore, they are currently renting the seat of government to President Mills, who they think must at all cost vacate it on or before January 7, 2013. This mindset is perhaps giving the NPP folks sleepless nights as they cannot even wait until the first ballot is cast for them to show their glee to Ghanaians.

It is an open secret to millions of Ghanaians about Akufo-Addo’s mania for the presidency. We all know it, and saw it fully on display right from the day he became the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2008 elections. Akufo-Addo’s motorcade at the time far exceeded that of then President Kufuor, leading Kufuor to express his anger and disquiet to some of his closest confidants about Akufo-Addo trying to usurp his powers.

But since we have a saying that history always repeats itself, Akufo-Addo seems to have learnt nothing from his terrible mistakes which cost him the elections in 2008. Apart from repeating most of those same mistakes, he has put intensity on others because he is so cock sure about his chances this time round.

Within the past week, Ghanaians woke up to some horrible and shameful events emanating from the NPP quarters which are more related to cinematology than reality. Firstly, the NPP put word out there about the passing of President Mills which led to series of jubilation in the Ashanti Region. No one would even wish the demise of his/her enemy but this despicable act by the NPP was aimed at boosting Akufo-Addo’s chances in the up-coming elections.

Two days later, Akufo-Addo’s invite to people to his supposed dreamland swearing-in ceremony as president of Ghana on January 7, 2013 surfaced. This man seems to have crowned himself the overall winner of the 2012 elections which is five months away, even before the Electoral Commission calls on Ghanaians to cast their votes. And if this behavior by Akufo-Addo does not sound like somebody with mania issues, then I don’t know what else is.

But before the dust settled on the bogus invitation letter to Akufo-Addo’s so-called crazy swearing-in ceremony, the NPP showed another desperation act on their part. They released a phony poll that Akufo-Addo will win the elections in 2012. And to add credence to this false and disgraceful claim, the NPP stated that Mr. Ben Ephson, Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Dispatch Newspaper, also conducted a similar poll which gave Akufo-Addo the edge.

But Ben Ephson came out strongly not only to deny the false story but stated that, "It is never true that I've conducted any such polls...They (NPP) should go ahead and lie to themselves...These are some of the things they did to Akufo-Addo in 2008 making him believe the election was a done deal...in the long run...the party was defeated...listen, if your mum is dead and you lie about it that she is fast asleep, after three days the stench from the decomposed body will show that you lied."

Ben Ephson who was not enthused about the lies being churned by the NPP further stated that he always makes public the findings of every survey he conducts, therefore, he described the report by the NPP as baseless and unmeritorious. He urged the NPP folks to continue tickling themselves as they did prior to the 2008 general elections which eventually sent them into opposition.

I strongly believe that Akufo-Addo does not listen to anybody outside his core advisers, nor does he read about anything. This is because Akufo-Addo is currently doing the same thing that the American scientist Albert Einstein famously stated that "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results."

Akufo-Addo never learnt anything from the 2008 elections. We have seen him repeating the same big but unattainable promises. We have seen him doing little campaign and handshaking in the rural areas. We have also seen him causing the release of bogus polls to back his faltering campaign. Again, we have not seen Akufo-Addo doing smart campaigning. Ghanaians are very much aware that Akufo-Addo just like 2008 is mute when it comes to issues concerning his personal health, lifestyle and even his days as minister in Kufuor’s government. But millions of Ghanaians also can close their eyes and rattle what they know about Akufo-Addo’s obsession for the presidency. And it is this obsession, which I very much predict, will send Akufo-Addo to the political oblivion.
