Open Letter To President Mahama-Sir, Meet Ezra

Tue, 4 Sep 2012 Source: Sarpong, Justice

His Excellency President Mahama, I would have liked to meet you personally and ask some probing questions about what have shaped your personal and political beliefs but I have a 'slave job' to do here in Texas that will not allow me to come to the Castle and seek an audience with you. I have not pony down any amount of money to buy your book, "My First Coup De'tat", I have just read synopsis of it, which unfortunately came out the same time the 'Palace coup at the Castle that toppled the Presidency of President Mills' because of his death but my question or questions today is not going to probe the circumstances surrounding the death of President Mills but rather it will be on your book "My First Coup De'tat", Is it an Autobiography or Biography since my understanding is that, you had a ghost writer by name, Nana Ama Danquah ? No big deal Sir, almost all Presidential Autobiographies are written by ghost writers and you are not the first to do that. So far I have not seen people referring to you as a Dr. Mahama and that is a credit to you but as with Ghanaian leaders taking self praise names, you have taken "AHOBRASE3" as yours, that is a good one too and whether you can live to that accolade is yet to be seen.

We have had "Osagyefo", Okatakyie", 'Osahene' which should have gone to Dr. Flt.Lt.Rawlings but was stolen by that Boakye Djan guy who ran and hid under his wife bed from the barracks when things started going bad on June 4th 1979 but was quick to claim that name at the expense of Rawlings, We have had the gentle giant for President Kuffour and 'Asomdwehene' for President Mills who did not bring any "asomdwe" to Ghana so it is incumbent upon you to live up to your 'Ahobrase3" name but you have started on the wrong foot with what is so far known about you from your book which I quoted below

"It was at Achimota and the boy’s name was Ezra. Ezra, the tormentor, was two years older, very muscular and the tallest of 10 boys in the dormitory. Ezra looked like “one of the men we sometimes saw on the campus grounds clearing the underbush with long, slightly curved cutlass. Their skin, which was blacker even than a starless sky at midnight, would be glistening with sweat. I wasn’t at all surprised to learn that his father was a farmer, though I would have guessed that it was an animal farm and not a cocoa farmer, because Ezra looked as though he had been born, raised, and fed in much the same way as livestock. “His father, though uneducated, had a made a lot of money for himself. He wanted his son to attend Achimota, the school where the doctors, lawyers, politicians, and other members of the upper echelon sent their kids. With good reason: Ezra was a bush boy; he was tactless and uncouth." ---John Mahama---

His Excellency, is Ezra a real human being or a phantom exaggeration created by you to look courageous in your book? Sir, do you still hold this elitist ideas? I do believe you do since you wrote this book when you were fifty three(53) years old. Does that belief jive with your "AHOBRASE3" moniker?

Your praise singers would have preferred I provide you with demulcent to ease your burden of the Presidency entrusted to you by default but if I do that without asking probing questions about your personal and political beliefs, Ghana might end up paying a vigorish price for our timidity, I know you love Ghana too much you don't want us to make that mistake that will cost the country.

President Mills died more than five weeks ago and you are still mourning with your thank you tour that is barren with any family member. Usually in our culture, it is the family members that embark on thank you tours but I understand President Mills by virtue of his position as the President of the country is family to all of us but will it not have been appropriate to have at least included a biological family member like his 'Prophetic' brother Dr.Cadman Mills? The bathetic emotionalism with crocodile tears and sorrow displayed so far during President Mills funeral and your thank you tour will not win you an Oscar nomination but sincerety and incorruptible dispensation will help our nascent democracy.

His Excellency, the Ezra question needs to be answered or explained away because it's very worrying for a President to hold such an Elitist and Oligarchic belief that, the children of farmers do not belong or should be at the same school where Doctors, Lawyers and Politicians children go to school, that attitude is primitive that should be left for those who were born before Independence and not somebody who believes he is a cosmopolitan like yourself holding that mothball ideas. Farmers and labourers who by dint of their hard work some of our privileged Politicians stole the country's money including your father who you are proud of because he owned six private cars in the sixties, I don't think even Nkrumah ever woned more than two cars but people like your father gave you a headstart by stealing from those farmers you have no respect for.

Your Excellency, I hope your hoardes of canines with sharp teeth will not attack me for being insolent because I do respect the Presidency but that does not mean we should be timid and allow our leaders the right to do whatever they so desire. Your own Party NDC nibbled at President Kuffour who would have died if insult, civility and objectivity would have been diseases because those three were like plagues unleashed from NDC arsenal of mass destruction but the Gentle Giant soldiered on without complaining and I don't see why the game should be changed with new rules. They called it criticism and that is how it is going to be but with respect.

Your description of Ezra is a classic of elitisism showned during the stone age and our technological age does not not and will not accomodate such thoughts, not from even illiterates from my "FA NKYENE BRA" Kookoase village let alone an educated President of Ghana. I did promise my departed mother, let her soul rest in peace who with her limited formal education told me to let my yes be YES and my no be NO or in other words, preach virtue and practice VIRTUE because "Lies run sprints but the truth runs marathons" A guy from Cleveland Ohio by name Sita Ahmed took me to task for comparing you to Limann which I even think was an honor since Limann led a humble life without being tainted with corruption the same thing that cannot be said about you. "Sita PESE ODE ME AKONHOMA SUA NKWAN YE", to wit, Sita wants to use my daily stipend for food to learn how to prepare soup but that will be an exercise in futility on his part.

Thank you and extend my greetings to the first lady Mrs Lordina Mahama and all your children who are in your custody.
