An Ode to Leadership in Ghana

Leadership,

Some find it rude and crude,

Despite its exterior dazzling form of pomp and glory,

Especially leadership in the nude

Fanatical followers fret and fall over themselves,

Married to phantasmagorical party ideals,

Foot soldiers, bootlickers and cadres are intoxicated with doctrinaire,

NPP this, NDC that, they jar our ears,

Does that put food on their tables?

Fanatical followers rack their brains

To wrest logic from actions and inactions of leaders,

But wisdom eludes, and they are denuded,

Compromised position they posit,

Dyed-in-the-wool diehards,

Slay actions of Presidents as not prude

Leadership ride, they claim no bribe,

Wondering how wounded pride, and no bride

Dowry dumped deep down in a dump site,

Disappointed groom groans in gloom,

Grovelling and groping in the hovels of the land of might-have-been,

Teetering in the throes of mournful woes,

What was to be, was not,

To Supreme Court he sought solace,

Where he summoned his foe to another race

His followers fell in love with the new refrain,

‘All die be die, the die is cast,

Supreme Court, get your cut if you are not cunt’

Deception dawned on doomed dowry donor,

Perception printed volubly on winner of dowry payee,

What a noble and statesmanship act, Nana Akufo Addo did,

To Supreme Court to seek justice,

Oh Nana, posterity will honour you,

Your name in golden letters already etched in the pantheon of history

Yet, Ghanaian electorate spoke loud and clear,

7th December, 2012, we held our bated breath,

By biometric metrics and all its eccentrics,

Democracy at its best,

Leadership tussle finally put to rest,

Come 2016, power of the people will prevail,

And the contest again grotesque,

Protests, counter-protests,

Don’t stir the hornet’s nest

Nor let the hounds out,

Tomorrow, yes tomorrow beckons;

The jury will be out with another verdict,

Politics, not politricks, will forever burgeon, never decrepit or derelict
