No kidding. We're not serious at all as a nation. If a 56 year old man is still wearing diapers and crawling, has to be fed, clothed and housed by benevolent strangers then what shall we say of this man? Retarded ! Unfortunately this is the state of 56 year old Ghana.
We must take collective responsibility for the sorry state of affairs in Ghana but the bulk of the blame must be apportioned to the greedy, corrupt and visionless politicians, the intelligentsia, glitterati, and the media. "As the people so are the kings, politicians and the priests. Corrupt politicians are not imported from other lands. They come from the rank and file of society. An evil person cannot speak good things for the mouth speaks out of the abundance of the heart. And who said corruption exists in a vacuum? Part of the reason for the national under-development lies in the hubris of self-aggrandizement and self-gratification which prompts the kicking of the national interest into the periphery and into final oblivion.
The literacy rate is still below expectation .That's why in the enlightenment and information age of the 21st century we patted ourselves on the back and traveled as far as the United Nations to boast of the millenium feat of upgrading "schools under trees". It appears corrupt and mediocre politicians prefer an unenlightened citizenry. One major reason for the highly developed economies of the 4 Asian tigers of Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore and Taiwan is that their governments made major investments in education unlike Ghana.
The creation of stable macro economic environment was the foundation upon which the asian miracle was built. Our economy is import oriented while export policies have been the de facto reason for the rise of these 4 Asian economies.
The abandonment of the Nkrumah-built silos in the early 1970s defies economic sense. It makes reason stare. Does your heart not palpitate and your stomach churn at the same time when you hear that we are buying petrol at cut throat prices from overseas sources instead of refining some of our local crude oil at the Tema Oil Refinery for local consumption. What a shame ! What prevents us from formulating and implimenting a comprehensive national energy policy that draws on diverse energy supplies including renewable and alternative sources such as energy recovery from plastics? Plastics have a high energy content that can be converted to electricity, synthetic gas, fuels, etc. Recovering this abundant energy also reduces wastes sent to landfills and compliments plastic recycling. Alternative energy sources include Biomass(garbage)Energy, Wind Energy, solar Energy, Geo-Thermal Energy, Hydroelectric energy sources.
In short our politicians have failed us and it's time to kick some butt. We need fresh ideas from selfless and transformational leaders. How can we even develop when we are as disunited as we are? Disunity suits the selfish purposes of corrupt narrow-minded politicians but hurts and impedes national development. Ghanaians are hungering and thirsting for a new breed of politicians who will first seek unification of the country and create the enabling environment for the development of the full potentials of all ghanaians. God save Ghana from the rule of oppressors, mediocrities, visionless, corrupt and lazy politicians.
