This author is one of the dump guys that I have read in my life. How come out with such half baked, unsubstantiated, porous, unacademic arguments and stories just to tarnish someone's name? We appreciate criticism in a democracy, especially constructive criticism when that comes from the opposition. After all, isn’t the opposition supposed to keep the government on her toes by its scathing criticisms? Of course, genuine and well researched criticisms but not these advanced by this author smack of personal vendetta.
Personal hatred for one another must be abhorred if we are to forge ahead as a Nation. After reading this piece, my first reaction was that the author has a personal hatred for the President. To insult the President that he does not think is just hitting way below the bar. At least, the President’s past academic record shows him to be intelligent. He’s been through Achimota School, Legon to Russia and back to Legon for studies. He has been a MP and served his constituency for long. He is been the longest serving Communication Minister in Ghana’s political history and has been credited with the current communication state we are in or have today. He used to be analyst on different panels alongside Dr. Ben Kunbour, Mr. Kwasi Pratt, Mr. Kweku Baako et al. If these guys do not think, for God’s sake, how were they even selected to represent the Radio and TV stations and did the analysis that they did?
To borrow the words of Rene Descartes: “je pense donc je suis” and the President thinks and so he is, lives, exists. Thinking is the basis of knowledge and the president has demonstrated that amply by penning his own book. Those of us authors know how much thought processes go into writing a book.
The President was a vice president. Did the author ever asked himself what factors go into the selection of a Vice President? Perhaps, he should be reminded of them: intelligence, competence, affability, communicator, humility, academic background. The next stage of the President’s journey was acting as president and then became president. He rose through the ranks to the very top of his political career.
The author said the president has had access to all our revenues - taxes, loans, and exports, including oil and asked why should John Mahama's failure be so unparalleled in the face of relative peace and tranquility in this beloved country of ours?
What is he talking about? The President has been barely how long in office and the author is ready to detail his failures? It would have been wise to wait at least four years for his first term in order to write reasonably about his achievement.
I agree with the author about the vision of Nkrumah. He did great for Ghana. He built Tema Oil Refinery, the Akosombo Hydro –electric power for us. He built the Tema Motor Way and Tema Township. I do not however agree with the author that John Agyekum Kufuor's administration discovered oil for mother Ghana. Why was Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata undeservedly thrown into Jail? His supposed crime accordingly was misappropriation of funds and causing financial loss to the state. Mr Tsikata had the nation at heart and used his discretion to strike oil for Ghana…and for doing this …he was jailed for political expediency? And yet the author does not get this and writes as shallowly as he thinks? How can this author compare this President to the marauding money grabbing individuals in the Kuffour administration? Does he remember, Hotel Kuffour and stupid comments to the extent that Kuffour said he does not find anybody qualified from the Upper West to be in his cabinet? Does that make sense to speak as such as a president?
It is a reality in Ghana that we had elections.Elections were free and fair. There is a northern president. Deal with it and stop being stupid.
