It is breaming with filth .There are just too many people flocking to our region now because the government keeps dumping every major development on Greater Accra.

For example, why not build this new airport in another region? Is Graeter Accra the only land/region in Ghana? The eldwrs of the Ga state should tell the governement straight up to take the next series of real estate developments or other projects somewhere else.The region is fastly becoming unfit to live in.

It is true the government bought or lease some of the lands, but although I am a Ga, I partly agree with Akadu, most of our lands have been sold out by the Ga chiefs.they do not take any active role or speak out when they see anything thing wrong, they are our problem. The Ga chiefs have to put their heads together and find a lasting solution to some of the problems in the capital city. This is long over due. Anyway, thanks for the article, Mr. Allotey.

The fact of the matter is that Gas have been directly involved in selling land here and there to non-Gas! Let us face the facts. Yes, they come from stinking villages, yet non-stinking Gas in all their wisdom and purity sell their lands to to the bush stinking people! How nice of you Nii Odoi! Even Ga chiefs have sold the seashore to not only non-Gas, but also non-Ghanaians! I know the hard facts are a pain to you, but face the facts and then find antidotes to the problem!

Then again, I am not suggesting that Gas have made Accra comfortable and liveable because we all know that areas that are mostly habited by Gas like Bokom and Okpongolo are ghettoes. Accra has benefitted from our national coffers.

Your are not smart and I could only hope that I am not dealing with some benighted JSS student brimming with hubris of Ga ultra-nationalism. You see the people you call "bush" and "stinking" are mostly Akans who build up their areas and come to Accra to buy land to build. Have you ever been to Denkyira, Kwahu, Akuapem, Asante,Fante etc.

My man Nii Odoi travel and see oh! We Akans build in the bush and come to build in the land of the civilized non-bush people and non-stinking Gas!

This is sad a sad day for Nii! For the first time, he has learnt that the bush stinking Akans are smart (not smarter - I didn't say).

I don't want to insult your intelligence, but grab a any book on migration and learn about the push and pull factors.

Nii Odoi, you should rather ask why your people sell their lands left and right to bush people? That's what you must find out. Go to Okpongolo and ask the Gas who have become tenants on their former lands and they will tell you that their chiefs were greedy. They sell the land to feed on kenkey and apio!

Nii Odoi will probably have more akan relatives than you will have beads to count. that is a fact, intermarriage has seen to do, and that is way before the white man came.
to the ga, Accra has been an unfair deal. if you accept that 20% of ghana
live in the greater accra region and fail to acknowledge the impact that will have on the region's demographic history then you are not sincere in your viewpoint. insincere to the point of arrogance. the ga are the pivot that holds Ghana together and when a ga say bush they probably have the consent of some ashantes, kwahus, fantes, ewe, akuapem, etc.,and yes these groups of Accra residents know what the term mean. speak to some akans you know and they will concur that the word 'bush' to the ga means the uninitiated ghanaian.
nothing to do with modernity of electricity, roads, toilets, etc., that the ga enjoyed through a much longer interraction with europe and of which they claim exclusive eminence. growing up in Ga in the 50s as a schoolboyand taking in the whole and full history of Ghana, l can tell you that the ga made a selfless sacrifice for Africa. coincidences abound of such gestures and it has served the country well to the extent that, all is welcomed in accra, and the hosts have truly been open.
lnsulting gas is a shame because you will meet gas everywhere on earth, aware of what is happening to the Ghana that they never thought will come to that, but they will still hang in there with the experiment of Ghana, knowing that when they get their act ready, there will be no stopping.

Unfortunately you dwell on the side that will reinforce you point and that is disappointing in you. I am not surprised at your behavior or mannerism.

The author mentioned several instances of cheating aside of the selling of lands by Ga chiefs but you keep on dwelling on the same issue. This shows how brainwashed and subjective you are and you cannot deny it. Let me reiterate to you; Gas will not allow themselves to be cheated by any group of people/tribes or even the government and you can take it or leave it!

No, the Les were there first. The only reminder of their presence is the name "Legon." The Les, btw, have been assimilated into the Anlo people, belonging to Wifeme (Wi's house)clan. Wi was the woman who received them when they arrived, since there appeared to be some prior link with her. Ok! They have their story (folktale) but I am not repeating it here, since folktales don't sit well with my critical historiography. Anyway, I know some Anlos who received some of the proceeds when those lands are sold in Ga-Adangme. Phew! Many have migrated back to Accra though. Hmm! It is a major problem we have, since they don't come back or help with devt back home anymore in the VR. Saying this may be a surprise to most of you who don't have a clue as to the composition of the people called "Ewes" and why they migrate to other parts of Ghana and make those areas their homes and leave the VR to "rot".

Anyway, all of us our ancestors acquired the lands from some others. Even the Guans took the land from the pygmies who were living in Ghana before they arrived. The only reminders of the pygmies is the stories about the dwarves still with us.

The Gas indeed have an axe to grind but they must first start from their own chiefs, supposed to hold the land in trust for them. Time to take that role from the chiefs in Ghana and vest it in the people's Assemblies.

Although you mentioned it in passing, teaching Ga in all private and public schools is paramount and we must follow it through. We Gas have failed ourselves especially our chiefs and elders. They continue this trend in this modern day Ghana. Its a pity. Gas must rise and take action not by only writing but by following through our actions that will restore the Ga land that our great, great grand fathers stood for. NO POLITICS CAN SEND US FORWARD.

A combined force of the two ethnic groups defeated the Akwamus, not the Akyems alone. As compensation, the Akyems got the Notes to the Accra castles, which the Asantes later got from the Akyems in 1764.

You people originated from Mali and Ivory Coast that is why some part of Ivory Coast speak the Akan language. The land that GA people lease to you will still be there 200 or more years from now so there is no harm done but do you know that Anglo Gold, a foreign company has joint custody of your gold? The gold is no longer yours and that is a fact and now the Chinese are remerging through what ever is left of it. The cocoa that you people so much talk about and are proud of belong to the people of GA, courtesy of Tetteh Quarshie. What have you people contributed towards Ghana’s economy? Sadly most Ga chiefs did not think about future generations before selling the lands. Unfortunately the Ga language has declined with the dominance of Twi and this trend will be difficult to reverse.
