First of all I congratulate John Amponsah for taking the trouble to research the subject well before writing this very interesting article. We need more of such on Ghanaweb. I daresay in addition that seeing that he does not have a 'Dr' attached to his name probably explains why his views are so lucid, sensible and informative.
The minor reservation I however have about John Amponsah's article is that the essence of the write-up seems to be rather pleading for explanations and acceptance from the clearly racist British authorities as to why they took such measures against a docile and submissive Ghana. I am surprised at this posture because the British have never hidden their disdain and disrespect for Africans - particularly, Ghanaians and Nigerians. The unprofessional and discourteous manner they treat Ghanaian visa applicants alone, should tell anybody who has got an iota of self-respect that these people do not like or want us in their country for whatever racist reasons they may have. They are now however forced by their current dismal economic circumstances to be more overt and forthright in their official posture of prejudice and alienation against us.
But for the fact that since 1966, we have had a string of infinitely bad leaders who cannot strategize sufficiently well to project the fortunes of the country to make it what it should be, not very many Ghanaians would be even remotely bothered about going to that unfriendly and gloomy country.
But for the insult that this racist measure evokes, I am actually glad that many more Ghanaians will as a result, now be forced to stay in their own country to help build it into what all of us want it to be so that dirty swines of inferior moral and biological quality will not have the opportunity to belittle us anymore.

A lof of black Britons are never in doubt that what is happening in the grand scheme of things is ethnic cleansing. A lot of blacks from these so called bonded countries will not appreciate the gravity of the situation until it has been implemented. Imagine inviting your mum and dad to visit for a few weeks. Apart from the plane tickets, you will need to find £6000.00 as bond. But uk citizens whose parents are also Brits will have the luxury of seeing their mums and dads at no cost.
This is yet a xenophobic response from a racist British government bent on undoing all of the gains made on racial equality in Britain.
The bond initiative is intended to arrest and possibly reverse the growth of black and brown skinned population in the UK. The bond is intended to be prohibitive rather than corrective. The British immigration authorities are well aware that a lot of prospective travellers to the uk from Ghana will not be able to meet the £3000.0 bond requirement.
The bond initiative is motivated by racism. These are the kind of policies that create the tendency young Blacks and Asians to turn against the UK government. Policies like these have the tendency of creating a two tier system of 'we' vrs 'them' mentality.
A rule that applies to a section of the UK population based on skin colour is nothing but racial discrimination. Black and Brown Britain will be affected dissproportionately by the bond than White Britain because Black and Brown British-Ghanaians will be the only group affected if they want to invite their relatives to spend some time with them in the UK.

Times have changed. Not so long ago the only South Africans who could travel were mostly of European stock. Now the more liberal Republic's citizens are not so welcome. The changes came after the Home Office voiced concerns about the way South
African authorities issued passports and carried out checks.
This says it all.
As a South African resident Brit, I hear these complaints a lot. The problem is quite simple; since 'Democracy' happened in SA and the ANC deployed their supporters to all governments departments, corruption has run rife.
Anyone that wants a South African passport can buy one. It is as simple as that.
This news was very quickly passed to Pakistan and there was an immediate influx of Pakistan nationals that on arrival, for a fee, obtained South African identities and then South African passports on which they then traveled to the UK.
The only sensible way that the UK could control this was to put in place a visa requirement for all South African passport holders.

The articles are similar in that they all have separate sections for Conclusion and have sub-headings. But they say different things.
Amponsah, from the other article, I understand that the exercise will be a pilot project. If that is so, it is not here or there to single out the selection of Ghana among the high risk nations. It is a pilot project limited to a few countries not ALL high risk ones. If the pilot succeeds and they decide to expand it, then it will take in ALL the high risk countries including those ones you here determined to be more high risk than Ghana.
But your general point is noted. No matter whether Ghana is included in the high group or not, the policy is discriminatory on racial grounds as the other article also argues. But Arhin also makes the convincing case that the policy will fail in its practical consequences.
The whole thing really smells and is something that only a Tory government will do. The countries on the list are the same ones that the Thatcher government imposed visa requirements on in the early 80s for the reason that there were too many of them coming. Prior to that, Ghanaians didn't need a visa to enter the UK, a fellow Commonwealth country and the British didn't need a visa to come to Ghana either. Later, the requirement was extended to other commonwealth countries in Africa too. But this policy will fail as Arhin convincingly argues. It will make things tougher for those determined to come but it will not deter them.
Thanks for taking the time to furnish us will all those facts and figures. They give solid proof to your argument. In the end, it is only if our country becomes as good as the UK that there will be no pressing need to come there to escape harsh conditions at home. In fact, our country need not even be as good as the UK. It only needs to be a lot better than it is now.

Yes we can sit in Ghana and allow anyone from God knows where to come to Ghana and engage in activities that undermine the health, safety and security of Ghanaians after our officials get minimum money under the table if that is what we want. What we cannot do, however, is to expect UK and other nations to look at criminal acts the same way we try to wish them away or look the other way; it is a government responsibility to safeguard citizens within its borders.

Greetings Akonoba and thank you for your kind comments. Unfortunately, it seems that no such clarification has yet arrived since the time I wrote the article above, about two weeks ago.
