THE REAL TRUTH ABOUT TITHES

No topic excites many pastors more than tithes and tithing. Waxing eloquent, pastors with fiery zeal, would teach about how if you pay tithes God would bless you. How your business would flourish, how you would find that rich husband and how all would go well in your life. Blessings would flow like the Jordan River and life would be a bed of hibiscus petals. Conversely, you are also threatened and psychologically terrorized for not paying tithes- there would be no breakthroughs in your life, God would take away from you. Nothing would go well for you. Worst of all, you would be cursed by God because you have stolen from Him. Like the mighty spear of Goliath, Malachi 3:10 is launched at your heart.

"Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. But you ask, 'How do we rob you?' In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse - the whole nation of you - because you are robbing me." (Malachi 3:8, 9)

This verse has been used to intimidate many Christians into shelling out 10% of their income as tithes. It is probably the only verse in the Bible that many pastors quote when preaching about tithes. Other verses in Leviticus and Deuteronomy that shed more light on the issue are almost never mentioned. Church members are kept in the dark by design.

Was God rebuking the nation of Israel or the nation of levitical priests in Malachi? Malachi 2:1, explains further,"And this commandment is for you, O priests." God was actually rebuking the Levites for abusing the trust of the people. God is a spirit and does not need food but He wanted the poor to be fed. The Levites were the ones under a curse. Christ broke the curse of the law, so Christians cannot be under a curse today for not obeying the law of tithes.

Who received tithes?

Tithe was God’s way of specifically taking care of the poor Levites, orphans, widows, strangers in Israel. This was the only reason God wanted food in his house. God does not need food. Deuteronomy 26:12, clearly states that when all the tithe is collected “then you shall give it to the Levite, to the stranger to the orphan, and to the widow, that they may eat in your towns and be satisfied.” Deuteronomy 14:28-29 New International Version (NIV) "bring all the tithes of that year’s produce and store it in your towns, so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the foreigners, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands." Did Jesus, Mathew and Paul receive tithes?

Jesus was from the line of Judah so could not receive tithes. Only Levites from the line of Levi could receive tithes. Though the twelve apostles were men of God, they could not receive tithes because of their tribal lineage. How then can pastors today ask for tithes? Are they Levites? If the apostle Paul is not a Levite so could not take tithes why are some pastors taking tithes? The fact that one is a man of God does not qualify one to receive tithes. Even prophets and other men of God in the Bible, not from the tribe of Levi, could not benefit from tithes.

Did Jesus and his apostles pay tithes?

Tithe was never taken in fish or silver or cash. Paul as a tent-maker was not required to pay tithes. Peter as a fisherman did not pay tithes on fish he caught. That was the law of God. None of the twelve apostles could pay tithes because they were not farmers or shepherds/ herders.

Did Abraham, Noah and Jacob pay tithes?

Abraham did not pay tithes. He gave ten percent of the spoils of war to Melchizedek, King of Salem. God did not command Abraham to give. It was from his free will. Abraham did not tithe from his personal property, and there is no record in the Bible that he did.

Jacob also gave a conditional 10% to God which was not a tithe. There is no record of Jacob paying any tithes after this. The traditional 10% in Middle Eastern societies is different from the legalistic mosaic tithe from God. The mosaic tithe was not optional, it was the law.

Without tithes, the message of the Gospel could not be preached

God in His infinite wisdom asked for tithes to be used for the poor and needy. God did not request tithes to be used for pastor's salary, cars, church organ or choir robes. God explicitly said use it to feed the poor Levites and the orphans, widows and strangers.

God does not need tithes to spread His word. The apostles gave their lives to spread the gospel of Christ without taking tithes from anyone. Many churches function perfectly today without tithes. We cannot disobey God with the excuse that we are spreading the gospel.

Even if you are poor, unemployed and struggling financially, now is the time to pay your tithes.

Nooooo!!! This is twisting and misquoting the Bible because we want to take money from the poor. The Bible says do not take tithes from the poor and needy. The poor are to benefit from the tithes. They are to be given tithes. Telling the poor to pay tithes, with promises that God would open the windows of heaven and pour blessings on them is a big con game.

The Bible says those with less than ten goats or sheep were exempted from paying tithes. God did not take tithes from the poor. Telling the poor and needy that if they don't pay tithes God has cursed them is the ultimate in greed and callousness. Some pastors tell poor church members to pay tithes before their rent or children’s school fees and expect miracles. Some tell the congregation not to worry about what the tithe is used for. They say to just pay the tithes and leave the rest to God.

Would paying tithes make you rich and prosperous?

The promise of breakthroughs and prosperity and material blessings is used as a bait to make many pour their hard-earned money into the bank accounts of some pastors. This is nothing but manipulation. If the gospel of Christ is about acquiring earthly possessions how come the apostle Paul was not rich? How come John the Baptist, Peter, John and the other apostles did not get financial breakthroughs? Many of Christ's apostles were persecuted and killed. Life was not rosy for them. Were they not blessed men of God? If you believe pastors who tell you that you would prosper financially if you pay tithes, then you need serious Bible study. People like Oprah Winfrey, Ted Turner, LeBron James etc. are very wealthy, but they do not pay tithes, they are not even Christians. If you believe paying tithes would open gates to riches for you, then you are in for great disappointment and cannot carry the cross of Christ.

Should I give to my church?

Yes, absolutely! Give to the church. Your offering helps the church a lot. Paul spoke about supporting the church. But give from your heart to God and expect nothing in return. Give because you love God. It is free-will, not a binding law like tithing. God had a special purpose for the tithes. It was to feed the poor and needy in society. It was to take care of the Levites who were poor, not wealthy pastors who have mansions, fancy cars and are far richer than most in the congregation

Should Christians pay tithes today?

Jesus and his apostles did not pay tithes, neither did they accept tithes. The Pharisees obeyed all the 613 mosaic laws, so they paid tithes. Today, Christians are not under the law, so we do not follow the Mosaic Law, as we are under grace and not the law. How come so much emphasis is laid on only tithes but not the other 613 laws? If we have to pay tithes then we have to follow all the laws, like the Pharisees. When a child disobeys the parent, he has to be stoned to death according to the old law. No Christian obeys that law today. However, some hold on to the law of tithing with the might of Samson. Why? Is it the money? The love of money...

The fact is that NOBODY, ABSOLUTELY NOBODY, knows who God is. We don't even know if he exists! So how can we know what his laws are, what he likes or hates, or what he wants us to do for him? I tell you, nobody knows, not even Jesus or Paul or Muhammad whoever who were all ordinary human beings.

A lot of the truth about the religion has been distorted to suit their demonic needs but it is up to us to go back to the original teachings and stick to it. Historically, Jesus existed, there is even strong evidence to show that he was a blackman. If you believe in the story of the fallen angels, you will understand how they are going about trying to deceive mankind into following them rather than the creator. I believe all we need to do is to do good and try talking to the creator through prayer. All will then be revealed to you. You have to have a clean heart to feel the presence of God and his son, Jesus Christ. God is a spirit and cannot be seen in this physical world unless he decides to have a relationship with you. Personally, things have gone well for me when I increase my prayers. It's happened too many times for me to think it's a coincidence. I have also seen a ghost or something which definitely wasn't of this world so I know for a fact the spirit world does exist. It is up to us as individuals to constantly search for it using the right methods and I know we would find the answers. Consider why a lot of people go to fetish priest, I am talking about ministers,presidents,serious businessmen and women. We can then move on to whites who use occult,masons etc. All these believe in the existence of God. All those people are afraid of him, even the fetish priest. The masons even use the bible to do their tricks. All this must tell you, God does exist and his religion is not just some tool made up by some people to deceive the masses.There are religions for God and some for the devil, it is upto you to choose one.

There is not strong evidence that the historical Jesus was black. It is most probable that he was not black but a Jew.

It is difficult to know what is the original teachings of Christianity which you are urging us to get back to. Jesus didn't leave any writings behind. In fact, Jesus could probably read but he definitely could not write. The first writings on Jesus didn't happen until after about 40 years after his death. By then much of what was known about him was from word of mouth with a lot of it already distorted.

Paul came to write down the rules for the church and dictated what should be believed and not believed. But Paul never met Jesus even though he may have been born when Jesus lived. The early Christians wrote letters which they didn't know would become scripture. Many of these letters were not written by those whom we now know signed them. About half the letters of Paul in the New Testament were definitely not written by Paul himself!

Nobody knows who wrote the Gospels. Nobody knows. The early church fathers had to sift through many things and agree on what to accept and throwing away writings they didn't like. There were many competing meanings and practices some of which were forcefully weeded out or banned. The practices we know of Christianity now happened several years after Jesus died.

The Bible we have now even contains tons of mistakes from the earliest known sources. It will be very difficult to talk about "the original teachings" which you are asking as to stick to.

In principle, anybody can believe in anything at all he or she likes and find succor and spirituality in that. Christianity is just one of such things. It is modern Christianity that claims that it is the only thing that EVERYBODY should believe in because it is the only way. That is a big lie put out by mankind which made the religion itself.

My point was we need to do a lot of searching,ie we don't know the whole truth at the moment.BELIEVE by definition is what you feel. You are entitled to believe what you like but there are still facts that cannot be disputed. I can see you have a lot of knowledge in this area and you certainly can contribution significantly to the discussion. But like me,you don't have all the answers

You're right that Jew is a religion rather than a race. But it is still true that the core of the Jewish religion is made up of a particular Semitic race which is why many people mistakenly(?) equate the religion with a race. And this core group is very certainly not black and Jesus came from that core group and couldn't have been black.

Yes, belief is different from fact. And, yes, there are some facts that cannot be disputed. But the thing is that the most important things that we argue about are just about those "facts" that can be disputed. The greatest of these is, of course, the case of whether God even exists at all.

But, coming to the day's concern about tithing, my position is that since the whole idea on which tithing is based is greatly disputable (whether God even exists and if He gave any orders for tithes to be paid), the discussion on tithes is completely inconsequential. I think (belief?) that we should use our man-made reasoning to see that there is absolutely no need to pay tithes to anybody NO MATTER WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS since the Bible itself is a highly disputable document - a fact that was known to the early Christians and the Church Fathers who, along the centuries, have interpreted the Bible to suit their contemporary requirements - and also made many changes to the document we now hold so sacrosanct. That is why I BELIEVE the Bible has nothing to do with God and that one document about God is as good or as bad as the other.

Thanks for the reply.My position is that I am still learning and through prayer I gain more understanding about the ways of the world.My position on tithes is that it's a good thing as it helps the community as a whole irrespective of who gave the instruction ( God or Man). A strong community I believe is good for everyone. However, those priest who use the money to buy BMWs and fancy suits do not deserve it. It's up to individuals to use common sense to judge which church to pay it to.
With regards to the Black thing, historians have indicated that the whole of North Africa and most of the middle east was originally populated by African. It was due to ethnic cleansing that most of the Africans have vanished. Present day examples can be found in Sudan where the Arabs are trying to kick out the Africans. Old Yugoslavia too had the Serbs trying to kick out the Bosnians.(white on white) . Iraq also does have a black population. Moses who was a Jew managed to pass himself off as an Egyptian. Jesus went to hide in Egypt when he was a child to hide away from was it herod or pilate when he was seeking to kill him.I am sure he would have stood out if he was white and the Egyptians were black. The question of the Egyptians being originally black is accepted by even white scholars. The facial features of their statues clearly indicate nubian fetures.Napoleon broke off a lot the noses of the statues to try and hide that fact. It is not only the bible that have some lies in it. Help to the society should be given as a MORAL PRINCIPLE not because of a commandment of some deity who will reward you for it. Secondly, the tithe is 10% of your earnings which shows clearly that it was NOT God who chose that figure but MAN!

As for the colour of the people of ancient Egypt and those who built the pyramids, the evidence, so far, is not conclusive. We don't know.

I agree with your point that History, in general, has been distorted. Yes. That is why we are even arguing this thing. But, gradually, we are knowing the truth - something you touched on in your first post.

Like he said, Abraham was already rich before going to war and tithing on his plunder. After giving a tenth to the King of Salem, Melchizedek, no mention of Abraham tithing again was ever recorded- It was a one time occurrence. Jacob's tithing was conditional. If you prosper me, I'll give a tenth on my return. G-d did prosper him and he gave a tenth. G-d loves a cheerful giver and that is biblical. Preachers of today don't preach righteousness but prosperity. You can pay PENTA TITHE but if you don't live a righteous life, you are eternally doomed

It was only those Levites who officiated the distribution of tithes and its services in the temple that were granted the right to take tithes as their occupational stipend. As Paul narrated: "He who plants vineyards obtain its fruits whilst the one who tends the flock obtains milk". This is what we call occupational stipend. If you plant vineyards, you are not given milk. The Levites officiated the tithe offerings and associated services thereof. For this, they were given part of the tithe as their stipend. The Hebrews author wrote that "Those of the sons of Levi who become priests have the mandate of the Law to take tithes" (Heb. 7:5). And the same Hebrews 13:10 says "We (also) have an alter from which those who served the tabernacle have no right to eat".Thus the tithe is exclusively Levitical whilst Christian ministers have the right to our freewill offerings. How does the Christian minister cross carpet to eat from the Levitical alter?

Deuteronomy 26:12, clearly states that when all the tithe is collected “then you shall give it to the Levite, to the stranger to the orphan, and to the widow, that they may eat in your towns and be satisfied.”

Deuteronomy 14:28-29 New International Version (NIV) "bring all the tithes of that year’s produce and store it in your towns, so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the foreigners, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands."

Tithe was God’s way of specifically taking care of the poor Levites, orphans, widows, strangers in Israel. This was the only reason God wanted food in his house.

GIVING IS NOT TITHING.

If you know the bible, the priesthood are not to own properties because their portion is God himself. Compare to the priesthood today. A piest cannot worship God and the mammon at the same level. 1. Tithing did not originate with Abraham or the Israelites as it is wrongly taught. Nay, it did not even originate with God. It was a common ancient Near Eastern tradition. The Israelites were part of the larger social matrix. In many ways, God incubated many spiritual lessons within familiar traditional values and utilized them as foundational concepts to elicit spiritual truths. This is what underpins the progressive revelation. Paul explained in Gal 4:3 that "When we were children, we were in slavery under the basic principles of the world". The Bible makes many references to secular tithes: In I Sam 8: 15 & 17, Samuel warned the Israelites that if they opted for a secular king, he would commit them into slavery by taking tithes from them. Also the prophetic 7-year famine in Egypt meant that it was not going to be possible for Pharaoh to collect the normal tax of 1/10th. As austerity tax recovery measure, Joseph proposed to Pharaoh to double the tithe levy to 1/5th within the first 7-years of abundance (Gen. 41:34 and note: 1/10 x 2 = 1/5). This is very sensible and that is what won Joseph the goodwill of Pharaoh. We have ample evidence to support the fact that tithing antedated Abraham. Today, one only needs to visit the British Museum in London to find surviving evidence of tithe receipts issued by the ancient Near Eastern authorities.

2. The second point I want to share: The biblical tithe was "every tenth count" animal NOT 10% of the bulk animals (Lev. 27:30-33). The worshipper was to take stock of the new born animals by counting them as they emerged from the livestock housing to the pasture. Every tenth count animal was marked as "Holy" to be dedicated as tithe. He was not to discriminate between the good and the bad. The Akan translation "ntotosodudu" is a methodologically driven definition of this Hebrew procedure for livestock tithing; and it literally means "every tenth count". If it were 10% of the bulk animals, the translation would have been "abupendu". Thus if the worshipper had 29 cows, he dedicated 2, namely, the 10th and 20th count, leaving 9 as untithable. 2/29 is not 10%.

3. Money was not permitted as a tithable commodity. The tithe of animals could not be redeemed with money at all as they contained blood of life which could not be traded with money. Crops were redeemable with money. In doing so, however, the worshipper had to pay the principal value plus a penalty of 20% of the value.

5. Three-tier tithes were commanded to be paid in a septennial (7-year cycle):

a. The Levitical tithe (paid every year for 6 continuous years)

b. Festival tithe: Every 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th year, a second decimation was sent to Jerusalem as a Festival tithe to prepare a communal feast.

c. Poor tithe: Every 3rd and 6th year, the second decimation was held in their local communities for distribution to the poor,strangers, widows and orphans.

The total of these tithes amounted to 19% of more.

Every 7th year was a Sabbatical year so there was no tithing.

Now which of these tithes is the church practising today?

6. In the ancient times, priests and their temple estates were not taxed. In tithing, the priests were also exempted. Simply, it is religiously unconstitutional for a priest to tithe! Abraham, Jacob and all who were mentioned in the Bible to have tithed, did so because they were not desginated as God's priests. How do we reconcile the tithe doctrine with the theological sense of the gospel that Christianity is a even superior priesthood?

7. Jesus inferred in Matt. 17:24 that sons in every kingdom are exempt from taxes, customs or duties. His logical question was: "From whom do even kings of the earth collect customs or duties: From their own sons or the others?" We are told repeatedly in the NT Scriptures that Christians have been adotped as sons and as such the spirit in us cries out "Abba" meaning "Daddy" which is a more intimate way of addressing your beloved father. How do we reconcile this the tithe doctrine with the fact that we are sons in God's kingdom?

8. We are told that Melchizedek collected tithe from Abraham. This is wrongly used as typology by tithe preachers to justify why we should tithe to Christ. They reason that Melchizedek represents Christ. Yes,but the tithe of Abraham was not mere stipend for the priesthood. In the regular tradition, tithes were paid by subordinates to their superiors. The author of the Hebrews explained Abraham's tithe in this context to justify that Melchizedek was superior to Abraham. Abraham paid the tithe as the patriachal head on behalf of the Jewish nation, including the priests. By logical extension, they were also subordinate to Melchizedek and therefore to Christ. Melchizedek was of Gentile descent and unlike the Levitical priests, his priesthood was not a geneological inheritance. The expressions that he was "without father, without mother" related more to the origin of his priesthood than his humanity. The priesthood of Christ was also not a genological inheritance. The NT Christian priesthood shares this commonality. In fact the author of Hebrews used this and many scenarios to show how better the NT is over the OT dispensation. Here, he used the implication of one person tithing to another to show how the NT priesthood is superior to the OT priesthood, since their patriachal head, Abraham, tithed to Melchizedek who pre-figured our priesthood. Christ is our High Priest. In the Levitical analogy, the priests did not have to pay tithes to the high priests. So why the doctrine that Christians who are the NT priests are to tithe to Christ?

Reading carefully this article I discover that the writer was very quick in vilifying wrong pastors so much so that he missed the focal point of his article; the reason being that he could not expound the scriptures he quoted.
Let us look at this issue from a different angle: GIVING. Tithing is an example of Christians' giving unto the Lord. And surely, surely I believe it is through giving that Christians' get blessed. I do not know of any other means. Therefore labeling tithe (10%) as giving, is it wrong to give unto the Lord? One important fact is that whatever we give is expressed as a percentage of what is left behind (or could not be given). Therefore giving tithe is giving 10% of your income to bless the work of God. Remember all what happened in the Old Testament was a shadow of the realities about Jesus Christ and in the New Testament. Now is it not true from the teachings of Jesus Christ that we aught to do better than the people of the Old Testament? Grace is heavier than the Law: therefore if under the Old Testament it was required compulsory to giving 10% of one's income to the Lord before upon one's choice give a freewill offering what about the New Testament? Even Malachi speaking under the Old Testament spoke of tithe and offerings. Just as the writer quoted but could not expound it is important to give cheerfully and bountifully and not sparingly. Now do you want to tell me giving bountifully under the New Testament meant 1% whilst under the Old Testament 10% was required? I beg to differ, it is a poor teaching to teach this horrible and palpable lie. This is not the sound teaching Brother Amartey is trying to teach the whole world. Whilst teaching in 2Cor 9:6 Apostle Paul taught under the direction of the Holy Spirit that "whosever sows sparingly, shall reap sparingly" If we are expected to give bountifully and not sparingly then we are expected to do better than tithe. So the churches use the same standard as of tithe as the basic because Jesus did not condemn tithing (He said "this aught you have done ie tithing without neglecting the weightier matters") yet recommend freewill offering much more. Do not tell me you receive a $1000 and give $10 and is okay for you as spiritual and noble as Brother Amartey profess to be. My Brother Amartey need to engage matured Christians if he has aught against the Pastor in open frank discussions and I hope even this article will invite several teachings from men of God.

Fishermen in the Bible did not pay tithes. Goldsmiths did not pay tithes, soldiers did not pay tithes. TITHE WAS NOT PAID FROM INCOME. ONLY TWO PROFESSIONS PAID TITHES-FARMERS AND ANIMAL HERDERS.

Where in the Bible did God ask tithe to be used for anything other than food? Tithe was never used for temple furniture. Tithe was food that was eaten in the presence of the Lord.

The purpose of tithe is not for electric bills or salaries. God had only one purpose for tithes-- to feed the poor Levites and the widows, orphans and strangers. Pastors are not Levites. There are dno Levites in the Church today.

The men of God has become sign boards showing where the congrigation should go, however they are going no where. Jesus dont just heal the people, he also ask that they should be fed. You can not save a people until you serve them. How do you serve a people when all you do is taking their money? Jesus major sermon was always on the service of the poor and downtroden also the orphans.
In light of the biblical understanding of the poor, what does this mean for Christians and the Church? What are their respective responsibilities? It can be said in two words: imitate God. When God's people care for the poor, they imitate God and those who neglet the poor and oppressed are really not God's people at all - no matter how frequet their religious ritual or how ofthen they go to Church. Churches and their pastors has the financial capacity to help the poor and orphans, do they do it? The parable of the rich man and Lazarus in the book of Luke points out one's treatment of the poor has something to do with heaven and hell. It also supports the fact that it is not riches per se, but the callous unconcern for the poor by those who have riches that is at issue in the parable. If you examine the Pastors they are far richer than the people they preach to. And who are these folks collecting the money for? Remember God do not need money, if he does he could go to the Bank directely and take as much as he want.
The tithes was to be used for the poor, orphans. and widows. If you wish to spread the word of God, you do not need to be paid or given a car by the very poor who you claimed you want to save. There have been many sermons, articles and books on what determines whether or not one is truly Christian and what will be the basis of the final judgment. Is it possible that the treatment of the poor is the ultimate test of true Christianity? This is a timeless question that each generation must wrestle with afresh. Pastors, you are robbing God, because the money you take in the Church from the people is to be use to feed the poor. Repent ye Therefore.

Then, who is Christ? Christ is a Priest after the order of Melchezedek?that is, To receive your tith and bless you like Abraham was blessed by Melchizedek.
You see,
Deep spiritual truth in the kingdom were not found under the mosaic laws, but rather before the laws. Abraham was not under any law so is a Christian.
Why then is tithe needed? We are workers together with The Lord. So a tith of your life here belongs to God.have you remembered the graden of Eden? You can eat all fruits but one!
It's a principle in the Spirit. Not just money.

What do you get when you pay tithe?
He said," I will pour you a blessing, that there may not be room enough to receive it. I will rebuke the devourer for you sake" do you know who the devourer is? Things that eat up your money unlawfully,,I.e. hospital bills, wrong investments, etc.
Why all this decrees from God.? Because you are walking with Him in your finances and it's the only place God in the entire Bible stated that " Prove Me" would you prove God and He will fail you?

If He were talking to only the Levites, was Abraham a Levi, or Isaac or Israel ?

Anyway, tithing is by Faith in the Lord that His word is immutable. " forever oh Lord your word is settled in heaven"

If you pay monetary tith and you don't receive the blessing( he said blessing not necessarily money ) it means God is incapable of responding to you after you prove Him. And I tell you, He is more than willing to respond to you.

If a pastor misuse the tith, who's problem is it? It is his problem because I did not pay tith to the Pastor. It is done in faith to the Lord after the ORDER OF MELCHISEDEK

I believe churches which use the tithes they collect to fund community service should be supported by all and this will bring blessings to all not just the tithe giver

Anyway tithe was never income. Tithe was food to be eaten.
Men of God did not take tithes, the Levites and the poor received tithes.
Pastors today, like the apostle Paul are not Levites, so cannot benefit from tithes.

Jesus was from the line of Judah so could not receive tithes. Only Levites from the line of Levi could receive tithes. Though the twelve apostles were men of God, they could not receive tithes because of their tribal lineage. How then can pastors today ask for tithes? Are they Levites? If the apostle Paul is not a Levite so could not take tithes why are some pastors taking tithes? The fact that one is a man of God does not qualify one to receive tithes. Even prophets and other men of God in the Bible, not from the tribe of Levi, could not benefit from tithes.

Tithe was never taken in fish or silver or cash. Paul as a tent-maker was not required to pay tithes. Peter as a fisherman did not pay tithes on fish he caught. That was the law of God. None of the twelve apostles could pay tithes because they were not farmers or shepherds/ herders.

Even Jesus was killed for teaching the Jews the truth contrary to what the Priest were teaching them, the priest were abusing the word to their advantage and Jesus spoke about it and they hated him for that. Jesus went further as whipping the priest who were selling in the church and said "They have turned my fathers house into a den of thieves"

What most of these modern day pastors are doing is worse than what was happening during the time of Jesus. Can you imagine pastors buying private jets while some church members cant afford three square meals? Where is your morals? Paying Tithes is good but the main purpose was not for the pastor and his family to build fortunes as TD Jakes, Ortabil, Duncan Williams, Benny Hynn and co are doing.

I have read Pastor Amartey's first and second articles and his passion for attempting to establish the certainty of the truth on tithes, which I genuinely appreciate. However, half truth is still falsehood because it does not represent the full truth. He ought have prayerfully examined the scriptures and with an open mind allowed the Holy Spirit to minister to him on what he had read, because you can only interpret scripture via the Holy Spirit who is the Spirit of truth and our Teacher (Jn 16v13-14; 1 Cor 2v10,14). This is vital because everybody can read the stories, but the stories don't deliver; it is by accessing the mystery behind the stories we read that we can gain mastery over the affairs of life (Mk 4v11).
In his first article Pastor Amartey was wrong when he said Abraham did not pay tithe. The truth is, Abraham paid tithe of all that he had to Melchizedek (Gen 14v20; Heb 7v6). Abraham's tithe covered four generations, that is , Abraham-Isaac-Jacob-Levi (Heb 7v9-10). Abraham paid tithe before the introduction of the law and was so blessed that he became the symbol of generational reference. Jesus came and validated the place of tithing in the New Testament (Matt 23v23). In Hebrew 7v7-8 Jesus is the One that receives tithes in heaven. Jesus has the key of David that opens and no man can shut and shuts and no man opens Rev 3v7). So when your tithe account is intact, He opens the windows of heaven for the outpouring of blessings. You cannot access divine blessings on your terms, it has to be on His terms.
Now let me say this to humble you! You are not giving to help God, His church, the Pastor or anybody. You are giving to secure your own fortune in God. In fact you are too small to be God's sponsor. He says 'the earth is the Lord's and the fullness therof' (Ps 24v1); 'If I were hungry, I will not tell thee...' (Ps 50v12); 'The silver is mine and the gold is mine, saith the Lord' (Hag 2v8). And never think that it is your tithe that ministers are feeding on. God, who fed Elijah through the ravens, is still able to pay well His true servants with or without your money. He is able to take care of His own. He sent Elijah to the widow of Zarephat to open up her destiny not because he could no longer feed His servant.
Now this is the challenge, if you cannot manage the 90% of your salary, will the 10% make any difference? Now google this fact; the first billionaire in US history was tithe made. His mother taught him to tithe from day one. His name is John D Rockefeller. I can go on and on and give many examples of countless men and women who have engaged the covenant practice of tithing and entered into realms of financial fortune. They have become the new Abrahams of this generations.
I have many things to say on this topic of tithing and the mystery of financial fortune. I will find time to put them together so you can read and access things for yourself.
So my fellow believer, don't be easily 'tossed to and fro, and be carried about with every wind of doctrine' (Eph 4v14), because you have a responsibility not to be deceived.

Your understanding is warped. There is more blessing in giving to the needy and the poor than a pastor who enriches his family as we see today.

Open your eyes and stop been closed minded. If God blesses just for Tithes then Ghanaians and Nigerians will be some of the richest people in the world cos they go to church and pay Tithes than most people around the world.

For your information Rockefeller did not give to any pastor to enrich his family, he did philanthropic work the same that Bill Clinton, Bill gates, Warren Buffet and other rich America Billionaires are doing. Their giving went to the poor, the sick, the weak, and the needy in society.

Jews even contribute to uplift poor Jews in their community hence the success you see with all Jews. Rabbis are paid from donations and that is the end of the story.

The Lord blesses in so many ways based on so many deeds, not only by paying tithes to a pastor, the dream of many modern day pastors and the writer was clear about that unless you cant read.

If paying Tithes was the only way to attract the Lords blessings then once again Africans especially Ghanaians and Nigerians will be among the worlds richest, not counting the Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Taiwanese and co who do not even believe in our Christian and do not pay Tithes to any pastor.

Stop misleading the masses for what modern day pastors are doing is worse than what they did during Jesus time on earth. He criticized them and called them thieves. he even went into the temple and whipped them whiles stating that "they have turned my fathers house into a den of thieves."

Most American help the poor in many ways not the ways you, the Obinims, Duncan Williams, Ortabils, Benny Hynns and co want them to do. That is giving you their hard earned money so you will turn around and build treasures on earth.

Seek the truth and the truth shall set you free.
