Very interesting piece. The setting of your piece seems to be in Ghana. I was not surprised to read your observations and opinion. Here in the US, a recent article based on a survey showed that more men are becoming stay at home dads, doing/performing what we would call tradional home duties previously thought to be the mainstay of women. Furthermore, more women are in the workforce now leading to sharing of domestic responsibilities. I personally see nothing wrong with this if we accept that marriage is a partnership - call it team work.
I "traditionally minded societies like in Ghana it is common for both men and women to assert, without any evidence or need for it, that the woman "has done something" to the man when the man becomes "domesticated". I am one of such men. Both my wife and I are professionals, and because of my background and upbringing, I am able to do a lot of domestic chores easily - in fact I love doing them. Thankfully, I am not surrounded by people who think and talk like the ladies in the Taxi you were describing. Mind you, women appreciate this and it is the right thing to do. The world is changing and both men and women should change with it.

It's not about gender equality , first of all the comparison we make which is so not right is to compare the western world to ours . Look we need to accept our tradition but we need to find the right and correct balance between for it , this article is ok but doesn't address the whole issue . We don't need to totally accept the ways of the western world just us we won't accept homosexuality in GH , we need balance but it doesn't mean we should throw out what makes us Ghanaians . I don't mind doing the chores when my wife is sick or tired after work , or maybe picking the kids from school and taking care of them when am on leave but it doesn't mean it should be a continues process , most women take advantage of that , Jojo I hope your wife isn't doing the same. .

No women are not their own worst enemy . What those two women think of their friend is not different from what average and even some educated women believe . We we know find the western world blah blah blah , Jojo tell me how many of your friends who marry and takes their wife's abroad get a sound marriages , or how many of them have happy life's after marrying a white lady or an African woman there , we are down here and we know the frustrations this women takes u guys through . No matter how many times you claim the western world is better then here you would never ever be like them , so take , may advise the fact that you can cook or love doing the house chores doesn't mean you should make it a continues process , you would never ever be like them , if you leave a thousand years in the western world be like them , dye your hair , become a man-woman for your cherished wife the white still no you are a fool in paradise being blinded by what you see . Trust me find the right balance us the message above rightly said , and for Ghanaian men that abuse woman , taken advantage of tradition , you are weak and not worth branding yourself a man , don't abuse a woman it makes u a weak man not the other round . Look at your children you raise there and see their future , you guys even admits it sometimes " men is not good to raise kids there Kara "

When we go to work we have job descriptions why not do the same at home? Women are more likely to experience emotional turmoil because of their biological make up. There are children to be raised, I for one don't believe in having others raise the children anymore. At least one person in the family should not have to deal with job stress, that should be the woman.

Good article and observation Frank. Jojo Hammond, we have a problem as black Africans in general, and particularly Ghanaians. How many times haven't we heard of Ghanaian women being sent abroad only to become monsters and create problems for the man, and even in some cases have the man who brought them deported. Anybody out there should look for Arthur Schopenhauer's On Women. Question? Which of the two genders will, given a 50-50 chance shoplift. No matter what changes we face women always think of the man dying first for them to inherit his property. The average European woman does not depend on men for survival. Our women will accept change if only that will give them a Western environment. There is no such thing as "if the man, who has toiled for all these years has lost his job, then let me take over until he settles." So as we can see, changes we can accept but our women will mess it up. Jojo Hammond, how many women here after completing university, etc will go for a taxi driver? We have heard of countless very well educated men falling for tomato sellers, etc. My late father was a diplomat, yet my mother had never seen the interior of a class when she was a child. If this had been the exact opposite, my mother would never have gone in for my father. Jojo again, even today our women no matter how POOR they are will first and foremost see a potential partner and wonder if "he's my type!" I was in a taxi here in Accra, when I made some comments based on observations I had made that before any woman goes out there looking for serious marriage, she will either be past her prime, looking for a father for her bastard child, or she had messed up in her previous marriage and would like to prove her detractors wrong by "getting into a better marriage". A young pretty lady in the front seat turned her head, gave me a sharp look and said all that I have mentioned are 100% true, and that how did I know all this. She thought it was a purely ladies' club sort of thing.

In time past men were holding the lands and the means of production hence they have the money. A woman therefore married to take charge of the man's products to sell. Hence women were selling the farm produce, the fish, the goldsmith products, and so on. Hence at that time women look up to their husbands to bring money for the household needs. In these days women can acquire properties and some are in higher paying jobs. Money and properties are now not in the hands of only men. Hence it is not in all marriages that the man has more money than the man. Marriage is not there for one partner to be burdened and the other to have it easy. Instead they should be helping each other in a way that there is equal relaxation for both of them. That is why two are better than one. The woman is in to help the man, likewise the man is in to help the woman. Hence when they come home from their respective work places one is not going to cross his or her legs when there are various duties in the home to be carried out. How a couple go about this depends on them and it should not be the same for all marriage couples. After all the conditions of any two couples are not the same. There is therefore the need for a couple to manage their life according to their condition instead of thinking there is one standard family life all should fit into. Like a Ga song goes, everyone one should know what is good for her and what fits her. Hence let us not live in traditional jackets.

A young couple were in their honeymoon suite on their wedding night. As they were undressing for bed, the husband -- who was a big burly man -- tossed his trousers to his bride and said, "Here, put these on." She put them on and the waist was twice the size of her body.
"I can't wear your trousers," she said.
"That's right," said the husband, "and don't you ever forget it. I'm the man who wears the pants in this family."
With that she flipped him her panties and said, "Try these on."
He tried them on and found he could only get them on as far as his kneecaps. "Hell," he said. "I can't get into your panties!"
She replied, "That's right, and that's the way its going to stay until your attitude changes."
