  We are just a bunch of lazy people who think we can pray ourselves out of every mess. The Ghanaian solution for every problem is a prayer. And I am sure God gets so irritated when he hears another Ghanaian calling on him for yet another help. We seem to have forgotten that "God helps those who help themselves".
  
  Kofi, thanks for such an exhaustive description of the Ghanaian economic malaise. I hope that some of these politicians and so-called newsmen will stop and read this, and stop thinking that the fall of the cedi is just due to the current government's incompetence. The current government is incompetent alright but so has been all the governments after Kwame Nkrumah.
  
  The average Ghanaian is as guilty as the corrupt politician and the fake so-called men of God. (I always wonder what that God is). If you produce nothing (and export nothing) but everything you consume has to be imported, explain to me how you expect the cedi to retain any value.
  
  This article must be a required reading for every Ghanaian, from the president to the fake pastor waiting to cheat some gullible woman.

  mahama is just a poser with nothing good in his head ,even our archenemy jj is telling him to reshuffle his useless ministers out but forgets the essence of leadership . if the president already doesn't have a plan of development then he cant expect not to be overwhelmed by events . mahama has been plagued by one pestilence of woe after another because of the evil deeds he has committed such as the murder of mills and his proactive tribalism of the northerners. you can not fit 3 pints of water in a pot that only holds a pint , we can not fit the nation of Akan in this confinement called Ghana as the potential is far greater . Ghana limits our diaspora to those who left after 1957 , the nation of Akan recognizes those in Brazil , Caribbean ,USA etc centuries ago as all children of Akan and most welcome home just as the Israelis also are not limited by time . yes even Michelle Obama is a child of the Akan nation like it or not . We can not talk of the unification of the African continent if the true identities and real stakeholders remain imprisoned in their own countries. we have govts who only wish to retain power but ask the Berbers Yoruba , igbo or whoever individually if they want African unity today like the European union and they will confirm. its their govts who pay lip service but in reality are all against . everywhere we have vultures of corruption perched at the highest offices of the land bleeding the people of their lifeblood dry like the evil vampires they are . yes the uprising of the Akan we have global ramifications and a new breeze of justice will flow throughout the world . long live the republic of Akan

This is an excellent and a very clear piece, brought down to the lowest explanations for all to read. A free tuition for our so called economists, with indepth explanations and anlysis with simple examples. Mr. Fekpe, I would advise that you send some of these things to the government, even if they already are aware, as you mentioned. They might have forgotten. And to those so called fake men of God who look at every problem in this country from their religous point of view, without looking at the scientific aspect, I say, they should give us a break! No amount of prayers would make a single difference if we fail to critically look at the scientific aspect of some of these things as Mr. Fekpe has nicely illiustrated. A word to a wise!

  The answer to this question is "soccer." We almost beat the whole world at soccer in South Africa. Seriously, if Ghana knew or learned how to do many other things at the level at which we play soccer, we would have no problem. Unfortunately, we are not capable of drawing parallels in duty, commitment, discipline, unity of purpose,training, practice and support all of which are inherent in a winning soccer team.
  
  The sad truth is you are right. Ghanaians do not know how to do anything. We take loans from China and ask the Chinese to build us a dam, a bridge, a port, a highway simply because we do not know how to build any of the above. And so it is with all other human endeavours. What I am afraid of most is that, deep inside we believe we cannot be good at anything.
  
  Until we do, we are doomed.

  Everybody today is talking about Ghana consuming more than it produces and consequently the fall in the value of the cedi! The author of this article has done an excellent job explaining for all - even the ordinary person without a background in Economics or basic knowledge of the same - to understand. What we are not discussing is that there was once upon a time - in the late 50's up until 1966 - there was a leader called Kwame Nkrumah, who foresaw clearly our present predicament and sought to avoid it by establishing various enterprises to substitute for imports and also to add value to our exports through industrial manufacture. Thia visionary leader had a PLAN - called the SEVEN-YEAR DEVELOPMENT PLAN. It is there for anybody who is curious enough to examine and see what can be adopted and adapted to lift us from our present tragedy.
  
  Yes, I repeat, Ghana under the leadership of Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah and the CPP had a plan to solve our future problems, and the present calamity we are experiencing is the direct result of the treasonous folly of the military opportunist-dictator-murdering brute-rotten corrupt, Jerry Rawlings, in destroying our industrial base!
