Yes i share the tacit view of he writer in this report on the state of Tamale. In my view i think the fundamental cause of this surge in crime in Tamale is the polarisation of Tamale. The political, intra ethnic (abudu/Andani), youthbased ethnocentricism polarisations etc. So people hide behind these lines to commit crimes albeit with great impunity. Politicians and their activities can be squarely blamed for being the driving force behind the unrepentant, nonchalant and egoistic crime tendencies here. If not why will the security forces arrest a group of peolple and the former regional minister Bede Zieding request their release, and the only reason being that where the arrest was made was far from the crime scene at Justice FM in Lamashegu. This can only go to forment more trouble if thee politicians continue to meddle in the affairs of the institutions mandated to carry out state duties. I believe with the right public education and approach this upsurge can be gorged..

This guy always sees nothing good about Tamale. How can a petty crimes like the once he mentioned made Tamale looks the way he portrays it?. For the information of KOFI, Tamale is the heaven of peace among the 4 metros in the country. All the issues he raised in his article, about 60% have been solved. Those who killed the 44 year teacher and took his bike have been arrested by police.
The 20 year student who assailant happened to be the victim own Carson and the crime was domestic in nature. The 2 guys killed had nothing to do with politics. To say gun shootings has grown exponentially in Tamale show how dishonest this writer is unless he was not in Tamale between 2001 to 2008. Generalizing petty crimes and bundle it the way this writer put them show how ill informed the writer is. Either he relocated to Tamale from a rural community where crime is less or he is simple being mischievous. He can not continue to portray Tamale the manner he is doing. People worked hard to make Tamale what it is today. Through voluntary night watch dog system operated in the past, crime rate in Tamale metro has always been on the low. Petty thefts and minor crimes in a metro like Tamale can not in honesty be described the way this dishonest guy is doing. He should be ashamed of himself.

Olu, your sentiments are well taken...I know the writer and he has written a piece that tells the truth whether you agree with him or not. Many people have expressed dismay at the rapid rise in violent crime in Tamale.....and for you to say otherwise, well, it is your opinion, but is just plain nonsense.....we all love Tamale, and some of us have lived here longer than you Olu have been alive, so young man, watch your words...because the writer knows more about Tamale which you think belongs to alone Dagombas, but you are mistaken, bro......Tamale is the property of all who wish her well....and one thing, Mr. Olu, the writer is not ashamed of himself for stating facts that you just cannot stomach....and before you begin your follow criticism, do yourself a favor, edit your comments before posting them otherwise you look stupid......

Nobody can hide the light and true destiny of the great nation of Akan. they use all kinds of schemes and tricks to undermine or deny a proper standard to us but we shall never surrender. we shall change and adapt as like the Israelis we are the chosen people of God and he in his great design has made us diverse but unified in spirit. the ashantis like the tribe of Judah are and will remain an integral part of our being to to attack any one part we all end up feeling it sooner or later. they have succeed in turning some of our chiefs and kings against us and work for their evil ungodly agenda but we still see clearly . God has brought us into the 21st century and with that a new system of governance and state of mind based on democracy since it is HE alone who blesses the individuals with the gift of leadership wisdom and justice irrespective of status at birth. he has shown us the blue print of the way forward in the bible and other holy books and the time has come to free ourselves from this man made bondage called Ghana. just as in the Ukraine we must fight so the truth will come out , fear not the battle as they will crumble like the walls of Jericho . cast away our so called fake leaders and politicians who are nothing but cowards and like our enemies fear even their own shadows . yes God has put a million fears in their empty bodies as he who does not fear the Lord , the Lord will ensure all fears of the world will reside in him. They threaten us with superstition , juju and what have you and we say fuck you and go to hell as the divine power is with us . Yes all the tribes of Akan are fingers on the same hands and God has ordained we remain united so our strength and light will be visible throughout the whole world and universe , our time has come . everyday its becoming clearer and clearer to all children of Akan that we must prepare mentally for a battle of freedom . they come with tricks that say we must take a non Akan as our leader because its nice ? do they not think that out of 30 million Akans we can not find sensible down to earth leaders and warriors to lead our own people to our own destiny? a govt of the people and by the people is what the 21st century democracy is all about . let them continue to play with the consensus and other figures that justify their fantasy and enable them to marginalize the participation of the Akan majority in the Affairs of their own land , to marginalize us thus preventing us to afford a better standard for our people . The had of God has given them pestilence after pestilence but they refuse to let our people go , soon they will be swept away like chaff in the hurricane of fury . Long live the republic of Akan and don't you forget it as now the Fanti speakers, Twi speakers, Ashantis and other tribes of Akan are now one .

Moses, I remember the article you posted about one month ago with regards to the behaviour of the youth in Tamale. I responded to the article by stating that what is going on in Tamale is just "the chicken coming home to roost". I still maintain that; because the root cause of the criminal behaviour that is so rampant in Tamale is due to the atmosphere that has been created by political figures in Tamale who are using the youth to gain political advantage.
The Tamale that we all love and cherish slipping away before our eyes because everything is seen through the eyes of Abudu/Andani or NDC/NPP. Until such time that the exploitation of these chieftaincy and political divides are stopped not much is going to change. Most of these youth who commit these crimes have "godfathers" who protect them from arrest and prosecution and so what is there to stop them from repeating the same offenses?
As you observed in your article the interferance by political figures in law enforcement has a lot to do with why the youth are so emboldened in their criminal activities. If there is going to be any meaningful change in the behaviour of politicians it has to come from higher authorities such as the office of the president. And such a directive has to be sincere and resolute with a warning to all politicians to desist from using the youth to do their "dirty work". Whether that can be done by the president is a hard question.
