NORTH BIRIM RURAL BANK CUSTOMERS APPEAL TO PRESIDENT

Customers of North Birim Rural Bank, formerly known as Asuopra Rural Bank, have now turned to President John Dramani Mahama, to help them retrieve their money stuck with the bank for over six (6) years now.

In an open letter to the President, the customers claim they have resorted to seeking the President’s intervention because all the efforts they have made so far have all fallen on deaf ears, leaving them with no other option than to turn their attention to the number gentleman of the land.

They believe his interest in the case would lead to the retrieval of their monies from the rural bank, especially from the new investor, Mr. Alex Asiedu, who promised to refund their savings after assuming ownership of the financial institution.

We reproduce below the full letter.

Your Excellency,

APPEAL FOR RETRIEVAL OF MONIES

We the customers of North Birim Rural Bank, in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region of Ghana are humbly appealing to the President of the Republic of Ghana to intervene with the needed response to help us retrieve our monies from the chairman of the bank, who is also head of the board of directors for breach of contract. This appeal has been necessitated by the fact that all attempts to retrieve our monies in the bank have failed.

It is a fact that the Bank of Ghana cannot deny the past and present state of affairs of this Bank and the Bank of Ghana’s failure to play its supervisory role which has brought us to the state in which we are now, this situation continues to cause a lot of problems and sufferings to a lot of families.

The Bank had an agreement with the customers to allow it operate for a year to be able pay back any debt owned the customers of the bank. This agreement was signed before its re-branding on August 17, 2012, and a copy of this agreement is with the Bank of Ghana. Present at this re-branding ceremony, among others, was Mr Boyd Donkor (Head, Rural & Community Banks, BoG). The one year agreement has elapsed since September 2013 eight months ago and the sole owner or Chairman, Mr. Alex Asiedu is nowhere to be found and has even failed to pick calls; his General Manager, one Bright Amu, is also not picking our calls.

Efforts to cash our own monies deposited at the bank presently or previously have been in vain. This issue has been in the news for some time now but it looks clearly that the institutions responsible are not ready to help us; institutions like the Bank of Ghana, EOCO, and others have just refused to act maybe because we are in a remote area so we don’t matter much.

Your Excellency, though it may seem to be a bother, however if the institutions had acted we wouldn’t have come this far.

We, therefore, appeal to you to intervene to save us from the hands of this investor who has failed to live up to the terms of the agreement he signed. You are our last hope, please. Thanks in advance.

Yours Faithfully,

PRINCE DEL

(On behalf of Customers)
