The National Democratic Congress (NDC) attained a matured age of 22 on Thursday. Inaugurated on June the 10th, 1992, the NDC, coming from a popular revolutionary background of the June 4, 1979 and the 31st December, 1981 – Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) and Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) respectively, that wrested Ghana from the claws of the hawks of wealth, was once formidable and held its own against any political opposition threat. Yes; people of Ghana took it serious.
Those were the times, people saw being-in-government as service to God and mankind. The NDC leadership of yesteryear blazed the trail and had mass following to the chagrin of its main political rival, the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
It is because, the NDC then had been faithful to the people and put workable brains and hands on deck, the development of the nation and its human, as well as natural resources, backed by twin-bogey word it called probity and accountability.
The youth factored into the old NDC were full of sense of purpose, and for that matter, were able to help the leadership prosecute the party and government agenda to the latter for the benefit of the people. The Informer wishes NDC of today was the same as yesterday.
However, at 22, the NDC though chatting into a very competitive election of 2016, seems limping on a limb of popularity deficiency – the very ailment that threatens to exhaust oxygen from the party. But this, The Informer would argue, is self-inflicted.
Seeing the NDC of today, it looks like one confused playground of teething children, who would want to walk before they crawl. This is not good for a big party like the NDC.
In fact, the issues concerning the NDC is, for The Informer, like dry meat; when one cannot chew it, tongue can also not turn it.
The Informer, however, would say to those who are listening that the way-forward for the NDC in the 2016 election is not clear.
A lot of NDC supporters – big and small, are shunning their once loved party because the party has long lost the candor that attracted them. But, maybe, a stitch in time could save nine.
