Elvis Afriyie Ankrah was the campaign Manager, I think for the NDC Campaign for the 2016 General elections. He told the World he would quit politics after helping President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC win the 2016 general elections. Among his core reasons was that Ghanaians have unfairly chastised and questioned him over the 2014 FIFA World Cup Budget. Eventually he arrogated to himself powers and became the alpha and omega of everything planning the World Cup.
As the self acclaimed archaeology to zoology of the prestigious mundial in Brazil he seemed to have condoned and connived with the Kwesi Nyantakyi led power drunk Ghana Football Association and his bunch of "water full of no fish" Management committee of the Senior National team, the Black Stars. Milking the nation to shame and humiliation.
I have worked with Sports Ministers from, Hon. E.T Mensah, Hon. Yaw Osafo Marfo, Hon. Paapa Owusu Ankomah, the late Hon. Kwadwo Baah Wiredu, Mallam Issah, Hon. Mohammed Muntaka, Hon. Rasheed Pelpuo, Akua Sena Dansua, you name them. As a sports journalist I dare say of them all none has ever exhibited such level of greed in the face of nativity at the Ministry. To the extent that he hijacks everything about the World Cup epitomizes his heights of greed. Setting up seven committees and appointing three travel agencies to cater for the World Cup was just camouflage to perpetuate his insatiable yearn to "thievery" at the monstrous Sports Ministry. The Ministry where you survive only by being in bed with barbaric GFA mafia goons. I dare say, as long as Ghana's World Cup history is concerned, the President Kufour government performed better than all other governments. It was our first appearance and if there were expected setbacks it should have been Germany 2006 but did we experience what disgrace we experiencing today the 2006 World Cup? Empathic no! President John Dramani Mahama yesternight promptly reshuffled the Sports Ministry. Replacing Elvis with Mahama Ayariga and sending Joseph Yaminne to the Ashanti Region as Deputy. Elvis is a Minister of State at the Presidency.
Musical chairs!!! I guess the President must stop toying with Ghanaians. If Elvis messed Ghana up as Sports Minister, does the President think he will be useful at the Presidency? I guess the President must be President enough to call the shots. Firing or interdicting him I guess would sooth the irritations of the common Ghanaian pending the constitution of the Committee, its investigations, findings, recommendations, government white paper and the implementation of the recommendations of the committee. Then we can chronologically follow development. George Orwell's Animal Farm on my mind.
I hope that Ghana under President Mahama does not become the worse governed government. Posterity will judge him. The spirit of the Ghanaian youth, the pride of the North will never forgive him and his descendants. I ask, how many ministers have come and gone since Kwesi Nyantakyi became GFA President??? Asem sebe! It is time to confront the smelling GFA head on. FIFA can yell for all we care. Ghana first. Afteral there was Ghana before GFA.
