Justice For Alhassan Yussif Luki

Mr. Alhassan Yussif Luki was a classroom teacher until his untimely death, he hails from Kusali, a community found in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region. Mr. Alhassan is twenty-four (24) years old, Alhassan was born a twin and the name of the twin brother is called Mr. Fuseini. Both Mr. Alhassan and the twin brother completed their teacher training education at Tumu Collage of Education in the year 2014 and were appointed by the Ghana Education Service. Mr. Alhassan was posted to Kankanduali School as a classroom teacher by the Sissala West District Education Service.
On one fateful Friday, 17th October, 2014, as at around 12pm after school had closed; his colleague teachers suggested that, they leave one after the other; it was a routine movement to avoid dust from a rider in front one another, since they each ride to and fro school. According to those he was last seen with , Mr. Alhassan was the last person to have set off and as at around 5pm was not seen by Mr. Fuseini the twin brother, who teaches in a community different from that of the brother but, often come to meet Mr. Alhassan home after school had closed.
After several calls to his colleague teachers and friends to know his where about proved futile. The family and the community at large suspected a foul play; in other not waste time, they started searching for him in the bush along the way to the community where he teaches.
The search was on foot from Gwollu the District capital of the Sissala West District to Fielimuo. After an intensive and rigorous search for six days, Mr.Alhassan’s decomposing body was found between Gbal and Fatchu some two communities before Fielimuo; the scene suggested that he was killed and dragged to a shrub with his motorbike taken away by his assailants. Reliable information from the family has it that, after reporting the incident to the deceased’s organization Ghana Education service; they were told that there is no director thus the officials available had very little to do. Another report was made to the Sissala west district police division.
The questions I ask are: Why is everybody mute over Mr.Alhassan’s gruesome murder? What is the response from the GES? What is the police saying? All these questions stand to be answered as the mysterious incident enters the second week.
The inaction of the Ghana Education Service as well as the monumental failure on the part of the Ghana Police Service to act with swiftness to the gruesome murder of this innocent young teacher, it is against this backdrop that I write this heartfelt piece.
Teachers in both Sissala East and West are now living in a state of fear and panic as they don’t know who will be the next victim; I therefore call on the inspector General of Police and his men to carry out investigation and make sure perpetrators are brought to book. Also with this piece, the people of the Sissala area look forward to seeing a better and positive response (collaboration with the police) from the Ministry of Education towards this mysterious incident.
