The strongest aspect of the Ghanaian football game is undoubtedly the midfield. Over the years the country has seen some heavy weights in the middle of the park for the Ghanaian National team. The midfield still remains the most competed for in the Black Stars because talents abound in that position.

The competition in the midfield of the Black Stars gets more interesting as players who are yet to be called into the squad have been very outstanding for their club sides this season. The likes of Godfred Donsah, Bernard Mensah, Divine Naah & Alhassan Wakaso have been very impressive for their clubs, no wonder most of them have been linked with top European clubs this transfer period.

One name that stands out among those who have been very impressive this season is Thomas Teye Partey, Thomas as he is known played for Almeria on loan from Atletico Madrid. He is a box to box midfielder who made 31 appearances for Almeria and scored 4 goals. He scored a wonderful bicycle kick goal against Champions Barcelona but was disallowed.

His brace against Granada earned him great reviews around the world late last month. Although he scored the opener in their final match of the season against Valencia, it was not enough to secure Almeria’s stay in the La Liga as they lost 2-3 to Valencia to send them crashing out of the top flight football in Spain. The 21 year old would return to Atletico Madrid and with the impressive outing at Almeria it is likely that Diego Simeone would reward him with a place in his first team.

Black Stars Coach Avram Grant is set to name a squad for the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Mauritius in the coming days. The Israeli has been monitoring Ghanaian players abroad after the AFCON 2015 and hopefully the exploits of Thomas Partey would not escape his attention.

The lanky midfielder has not yet represented Ghana, with his form for Almeria in the just ended league; he has done enough to merit at least a call up into the Black Star squad for the qualifiers. Ghana is scheduled to play Mauritius on June 14 in their first qualifying match for the Africa Cup of Nations at Gabon in 2017. It would not be a surprise if Thomas Teye Partey is included in the personnel to do battle for Ghana.
