Ghana international Andre Ayew became the most expensive signing by English Premier League side West Ham United after he completed a 20.5 million pounds deal.

The Ghanaian sealed the deal on Monday evening and is expected to debut for the club on Monday night when the Hammers take Chelsea.

Below are some of the facts that have molded the former Marseille trainee.

Ayew was born in France but grew up playing his football in Ghana, until the age of ten when he joined 1860 Munich.

The striker’s father is Abedi Ayew, who won the African Player of the Year award on three occasions.

He, like Andre, also played for Marseille, and helped them win the 1993 Champions League.

Ayew joined the French side as a 17-year-old and went on to make over 200 appearances for the club, scoring 60 times.

The 26-year-old boasts great versatility – he can play as a traditional striker, behind a forward in the No10 position, or on either wing.

Ayew is a hugely influential player for Ghana – the Black Stars – and has captained the side during his 67 caps.

The Hammers’ newest recruit has two brothers, both of whom are professional footballers – Jordan is at Aston Villa, while Ibrahim plays back in Ghana.

Ayew has played in two FIFA World Cups as well as four African Cup of Nations competitons.

He has only failed to score ten goals in a season once in the last six campaigns.
