I have just returned from a holiday in Ghana which I had to drive. I was amazed at the speeding on the roads. On the motorway the over speeding is insane. Overtaking when the marking on the road indicates no overtaking because the road curves or there is a crest. The worst case was on the Ada road. Drivers and I must say 4X drivers are the worst offenders. They over take when it is not safe to do so. Therefore they find themselves on the wrong side of the road, and begin to flash their head lights to warn the oncoming car to give way when they are in the wrong. This is madness. If the government wants to do something about deaths on the road they have to start at square one. All drivers should be made to take written test on road rules before they are issued with new licenses.

Drivers will only do the test to get their licences after which they go back to their stupid ways. 4x4 vehicles are the worst offenders.

Joe, I perfectly agree with you , I remember when DVLA was first established one of their policies was to be educated before you are issued with driver's license but the Ghana GPRTU objected to it saying most of the accidents are not due to the un educated all because most of their members were not educated but experience drivers so this what is happening now. You hit the nail in the right spot.

About eighty five percent of drivers in Ghana don't know driving signs. The government can get rid of these bad drivers, by arresting drivers who drive careless on the roads, to educate them. Or if they're to renew their licenses, the division of motor vehicles, should give these drivers a written test & if they pass, then they renew their licenses for them. But before going there, has the government or the ministry in charge of road safety done their part, by providing roadsigns, road markings & street lights. The erstwhile government wasn't serious & made Ghana a lawless country. Yesterday is gone & today is here. This new government should work & act fast & stop playing games. Ghana needs good roads. With over speeding, the government should set a task force to deal with such drivers. They're to give them a huge penalty or fines to pay. The government should buy the police service cars with a dashcam or to affix them in their cars, to monitor officers who receive bribes & drivers who behave badly on the road. Drivers shouldn't give bribes, likewise the officers accepting them. Ghana really needs people who're tough, strict & law abiding, to rule it. Most of these bad drivers too @ night, they'll put on their headlights on high, & if you give them a flash telling them to dip their lights, they'll rather put on their extra lights on your face, which usually results into an accident. The police should also patrol on the streets, both local & highways to prevent travelers being attacked by armed robbers.

Our country is lawless. Sometimes l ask myself if we've ever had a functioning govt in place. It will surprise anyone to know that since independence we've always had a functioning govt. But l think we the citizens are part of the problem becos we are not ready to force politicians to work for us. Have we ever had a whole minister for roads and highways? And has he ever been asked to explain why Ghanains are loosing their lives on our roads and what he is doing about it. There must be a revolution in Ghana becos lots of things are not right.

These Road ramps and speed tables from Mankesim to Yamoransa got to be analysed well n possibly replaced with speed strips bcos of the hazard they pose to vehicles at night. It good fr de villager along the road but bad for the driver and cars as the car has to be at almost zero speed before u can safely claim. At night armed robbers can attack the driver n passengers in de car. A driver not know to de road might bump into it causing accident. Some of the speed tables are just after a curve how can a new driver at 50km/s speed avoid an accident. AS much as we are think about the villagers let think abt the safety of the passengers n driver. We say that high ways are fr 80km/s off town n 30km/s in town, how can u claim a speed table ramps at these speed.
I know speed table ramps are fr high security zones not fr high ways n town roads.

Imagine a motor traffic officer telling an ignorant truck driver to pour diesel oil on the newly constructed road at mile 7_ Achimota and when I complained the so called officer told me I was talking too much! When I complained to her superior at the police station, he also asked me to go and tell whoever I wanted to!
So you see, the ignorance starts from the top and run all the way down to the lower dummies! SEEK HELP FROM RETIRED AFRICAN-AMERICAN POLICE OFFICERS!!!!!!!!
