The 2017 Budget statement was read in March 2017
Ghana has dropped from 108th to the 120th position in the latest World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business rankings. Ghana dropped twelve (12) points.
The Research was conducted between June 2016 and June 2017.
Note, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was in charge of Ghana from 7th January 2009 to 7th January 2017, and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has recently been in charge from 8th January 2017 to present.
Meaning 7th June 2016 to 7th January 2016 which is a duration of about 7 months was under the H.E Mahama led NDC administration, and 8th January 2017 to 8th June 2017, a duration of about 5 months occurred under the current NPP administration.
The Transition which was to facilitate the smooth handing over of power from the H.E Mahama led NDC Government to the H.E Nana Addo led NPP Government, and also the swearing in of the ministers of this NPP led Government lasted from 11th December 2016 to around February 2017. Meaning there was no official work done under this NPP administration during that period.
The 2017 Budget statement was read in March 2017, meaning the NPP started its official management of the country in March 2017.
From March 2017 to the day the research ended is a duration of about 3 months.
The above analysis reveals that the NPP government was in charge of the government's business for only 3 months under which the research was conducted while the NDC was in charge for 7 months.
As a result, it will be weak on the part of anyone to attribute Ghana's 12 points' drop to the NPP rather than the NDC whom had been most in charge of the country under the number of months when the research was conducted.
