Aggrey wins Mona's Birthday Golf

Akim Tafo, (E/R), May 11, GNA - The Vice Captain of the Achimota Golf Club, Mike Aggrey, returned a net score of 69 to win the Mona Captan's Gold Jubilee Birthday Open Golf Championship played at the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG) Golf Course at Tafo in the Eastern Region on Saturday.

Emmanuel Quarcoo came second with 70 net followed by Sam Nkansah at the third position with 71 net, Garry Jones placed fourth with 72 net, while C.T. Squire placed fifth with 73 net, beating Isaac Kulor on count-back.

Suzie Abaloo-Kummassah won the Ladies event with 76 net followed by Ann Brown with 78 net, Victoria Adjei placed third with 79 net while Yaa Konadu Sarfo-Debrah took the fourth position with 79 net. The Junior's encounter was won by Kwabena Yeboah with 75 net with Mohammed Ali placing second with 66 net, Iddrisu Mohammed took the third position with 67 net while Kofi Yeboah placed fourth with 70 net, beating Ernest Amarley on count-back

The one-day 18-Hole Handicap competition which was open to amateur golfers throughout the country, attracted 100 golfers and was sponsored by Mona Captan, a veteran golfer and a member of the Achimota Golf Club. Mr Prince Kofi Amoabeng, President of the Tafo Golf Club, described Mona Captan as a veteran golfer whose contributions towards the development of golf in the country had been cherished by all. He said Mona, who had won many competitions including the Ghana Open, is a role model who must be commended by all for her hard work and the show of professionalism always in the sport. Mr Amoabeng expressed the hope that the exploits of Mona would serve as an inspiration to junior golfers and members of the sport in general. The occasion was also used to mark the commissioning of the refurbished Hole Number '6' which had been named after Mona Captan.
