Amenyo wins 10th Tigo Tema Open

Peter Amenyo pieced together two brilliant rounds to win the 10th edition of the annual Tigo Tema Open in a grand fashion. He carried the day on a gross score of 144 in the Men Scratch Division.

Amenyo shot 74 on day one and followed it with a remarkable 70 to clinch a stunning trophy and a Blackberry Z10 as prizes.

After rounding up with 2-over par on his first day campaign, the affable golfer came around on day two highly poised for glory. With lots of speed on his putts and virtual driving accuracy, he crammed 5 birdies, eagled hole 3 in the process and ended with a spectacular 2-under 70 to surge two strokes clear of the field. Maxwell Osei Bonsu, Sampson Asorgba, and Joseph Klah each shot 146 for second, third and fourth places respectively. Their prizes included trophies, Alcatel One Touch and a Nokia Express Music 5330.

Meanwhile in the Ladies Scratch Division, evergreen Mona Captan, carded an impressive 176 for a first place finish followed by Felicty Gyeabour who settled with 180 for second place. Mercy Werner finished a shot back for third place. Thomas Komladzei turned out amazing style to seal his first major victory in the Men Handicap Division. He returned a net score of 136 off 8 and took home a stunning trophy and a sleek Blackberry Z10.

Ntim Addo followed 2 shots back to win a trophy and an Alcatel One Touch phone. B. B. K Ayivor and George Wisbon-Mensah surfaced third and fourth respectively with a net score of 138 but separated on countback.

Margaret Anderson took charge of the Ladies Handicap Division and delivered a net score of 149. Tigo duly rewarded her with a trophy and an Alcatel One Touch. Clara Price came second on a net score of 150 for a trophy and a Nokia Express Music 5330. Florence Etwi-Barimah shot a net score of 151 for third place. In the Youth Category, Enoch Nyarko shot a net score of 80 to emerge winner. He received a trophy and Samsung Galaxy Y.

Victor Brave-Mensah edged out veteran Emos Korblah on a four-stroke lead to earn a cool GHC2, 050.00 in the Pros Division.

The 10th edition of the Open drew over 300 golfers to the Tema Country Golf Club. With improved prizes, participation and huge media attraction, the event undoubtedly was a huge success.
