Elmina (C/R), Sep.13, GNA - Percy Amihere returned a net score of 147 to win the maiden Coconut Grove Beach Resort Open Golf Championship played at the Golf Course at Elmina in the Central Region on Sunday. Tony Ashiagbor took the second position with 148 net to beat Charles Sekyere on count-back while R.A. Sulemana placed fourth with 157 net to also beat Ben Fankah on count-back. Ida Vogelsang won the Ladies event with 167 net with Yaa Konadu Safo-Debrah coming second with 175 net while Joyce Menzo placed third with 181 net.
The two-day 36-Hole Scratch event, opened to amateur and professional golfers formed part of activities marking the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Beach Resort and was jointly sponsored by Taysec Construction Limited and British Airways.
Mr Lankesha Ponnoranoma, Group General Manager of the Coconut Grove Hotels praised the participants for exhibiting good sportsmanship throughout the competition. He gave the assurance that the Hotel would continue to organise and sponsor future competitions since it forms part of their corporate responsibility of contributing to the development of the sport.
The Group General Manager called for the involvement and training of young golfers to take keen interest in the sport and to take over from the older golfers on their retirement from the sport.
