Ghana midfielder Derek Owusu Boateng has hit the golf course although he is yet to hang his boots media reports indicate.
The former Getafe performer made his debut tee-off at the Achimota Golf Club Academy last Saturday, making him the second key Black Stars player after Tony Yeboah to join the ‘swinging’ family.
Now a free agent after a year’s deal with Spanish outfit SD Eibar, the dreadlocked defensive midfielder hinted that top clubs from Sweden and Saudi Arabia are seeking his signature for the next transfer window, come January.
He indicated that the sport’s virtue, to enhance one’s mental prowess lured him to join the ‘big boys’.
“…yea, I started yesterday, it’s a great thinking sport; makes you think well and keeps you away from trouble. Am enjoying it so far, though it is still early days yet.”
“I have not quit football, my contract with my club has ran out that is why am here, but am preparing to get back when the January window opens. Clubs from Sweden and Saudi have expressed interest in me, so you will see me on the pitch again soon,” says the affable player.
Achimota Golf Club captain Frank Adu Jnr., commended the player for his decision to join the Club, and urged other young folks to follow suit.
The former FC Koln and Fulham man joined the Achimota Golf Club with Dentaa Amoateng, a British-Ghanaian entrepreneur, actress and a TV presenter.
