Henaku wins Tema Open golf

Tema, Oct. 12, GNA - Eric K. Henaku scored 147 gross to win this year's Tema Open Golf championship played at Tema on Sunday. Y.B. Okyere came second with 150 gross, the third position went to F.A. Asorgbah with 152 gross, while J.A. Cofie took the fourth position with 153 gross beating F.A. Sogbordjor on count back.

Frank Etwi-Barimah won the Handicap event with 138 net, while E.T. Mensah was second with 144 net beating Gyimah Kwakye on count back. Mona Captan won the Ladies category with 157 gross, Grace Komladzei was second with 161 gross, while Mishida Mensah placed third with 168 gross.


Sayed Junior came first in the juniors' event with 77 net while F. Tamakloe won the second spot with 79 net.


In the Professionals event, Emos Korblah, 1999 Golfer of the Year Came first with 277 gross, Victor Brave-Mensah took the second position with 288 gross, Paul Dossey was third with 293 gross. Anthony Amuzu took the fourth position with 295 gross while Baba Akologo and J.N Quarshie placed fifth and sixth respectively with 296 gross.


The four-day Scratch event, which was co -sponsored by Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO), Unique Trust Financial Services, CAL Merchant Bank, Glotec Engineering, KEK Financial Services and Hullbruth Limited, attracted over 150 participants.

Mr Joe Aggrey, Deputy Minister for Youth, Education and Sports said the development and promotion of sports had become an enterprise, which could not be shouldered by the government alone.


He praised the Ghana Golf Association for its efforts to promote the sport and pledged his ministry's support.


Mr Aggrey called on other sports associations in the country to help the government in its bid of promoting sports.
