The impressive scores by children in the just-ended Ghana Junior Open has stirred Director of Junior Golf Program Steve Wilson to commend them highly.
Brimming with praise, he said in a post-tourney interview that "There are great potentials in the country and their speed, precision and power demonstrated today was amazing."
As a result, he has urged senior golfers to make available their spare golf equipment to support the budding talents.
The Director, who together with the Ghana Golf Association (GGA) organized the event said it was aimed at developing junior golf in the country by involving the youth in schools and grooming them for the Olympic Games.
He also commended clubs for making players available for the competition organized for children between ages 10 and 18.
I like manner, GGA president Mike Aggrey pointed out that the future of golf in the country is very bright considering the level of talents displayed on the day.
He added that efforts would be made to monitor the talents and ensure they are developed to become professionals that would make the nation proud as far as golf is concerned.
Sasu Romeo from the Royal Golf Club, Kumasi emerged the overall winner in the Ghana Junior Open after a 81 net score at the Achimota Golf Club on Friday.
Benso’s Samuel Arthur had the best net score of 66. Francis Kwabeng from Ankobra Golf Club also recorded the second best Gross after recording 83 points to win on comeback.
Alfred Baffour from Damang recorded 83 points to win the third best Gross prize, while James Anaba (Ankobra) and Megan Tang(Tema Country Golf Club) came second and third respectively in the net score category.
About 40 golfers from nine clubs from four regions in the country participated in the event.
The clubs included, Tema Country Golf Club, Achimota, Benso, Damang, Royal, Nsuta, Ankobra, Tafo and Takoradi Golf Club.
