Kronzu wins Bok Nam Kim Memorial golf

Tema, April 18,GNA - Kofi Kronzu returned a net score of 72 to win this year's Bok Nam Kim Memorial Open Golf Championship played at the Tema Country Golf Course on Saturday.

He was followed by Kweku Okyere who defeated Kofi Kusi-Boateng and E.K. Amezando on count-back after they had all returned 73 net score, while H.A. Govinous took the fifth position with 74 net. In the ladies encounter, Florence Etwi-Barimah emerged champion with 70 net, while Joy Arkutu placed second with 73 net, beating Felicity Gyeabour on count-back. In the Division Two segment, Ashsish Gaggar came first with 74 net, Kwame Ampaw took the second position with 70 net while Simran Oberoi placed third with 71 net.

Peace Akwei lifted the Ladies Division Two trophy with 71 net while Soon Kim placed second with 72 net.

Victor Brave-Mensah won the Professional's category with 140 gross, Godfred Sai came second with 140 gross, losing on count-back to Brave-Mensah, while Baba Akologo placed third with 146 gross. The day 18-Hole Stable-ford competition, which was opened to amateur and professional golfers throughout the country, was in memory of Mr Bok Nam Kim, former Chief Executive of Afko Group of Companies who single-handedly sponsored Ghana's contingent to the 1988 Olympic Games held in Seoul, Korea.

The late Mr Kim who was also former President of the Tema Country Golf Club died in 1995. Mr Gideon Quarcoo, Deputy Minister of Communications praised the late Mr Kim whose contributions to the game had made the club what it is today.

He charged the participants to emulate the shining example of the keen sports enthusiast. Mr Soon Chul Chun, Chief Executive of Afko Group of Companies, sponsors of the competition gave the assurance that the company would continue to support the promotion and the development of the game into international standards. Mr Chunn on behalf of Afko presented a cheque for 3,000 Ghana cedis to the Tema Club.
