Manasseh beats Owusu Bonsu, Kojo Barnni, others to win PGA Masters in Damang

Ghanaian golfer Augustine Manasseh displayed imperious creativity, tenacity, and zeal on the golf course to win the PGA Masters tournament at Damang.

Ahead of the tournament, the Tema-based golfer was rated as one of the favorites, and he lived up to the hype by hitting 72 shots daily for the three days of the competition.

Manasseh overcame competition from Maxwell Owusu Bonsu, Vincent Coffie, E.K. Osei, Anthony Gbenyor, Alfred Kwame, and Kojo Barnni, among others, to win the PGA Masters tournament, which is one of the qualifiers for the ultimate PGA tournament which will be held in Damang in the latter part of the year.

Speaking with the press after the victory, Augustine Manasseh highlighted that the victory was a deserved honour for the massive sacrifice and work he put into the competition.

The winner of the PGA Masters also expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the leadership of the PGA for the successful organization of the qualifier in Damang.

Kumasi-based Maxwell Osei Bonsu showed some great skills on the first and second day but came second to Manasseh, who was incredible throughout the tournament. Bonsu finished second ahead of Vincent Coffie, Anthony Gbenyor, and Kwabena Poku, who placed third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.

In the senior’s division of the tournament, which featured seven golfers, Robert Allotey of the Celebrity Golf Club from Sakumono grabbed the first position, with Teye Lartey placing second and Kwame Korsah finishing in third spot.

Achimota-based lady golfer Jessica Tei emerged as the winner of the women’s division after playing 81, 82, and 83 on the first, second, and third days, respectively. Felicity Gyeabour of the Royal Golf Club and Mercy Afi Werner came in second and third, respectively.

The three ladies expressed their gratitude to the organizers for the opportunities provided to them to compete and develop their talents. They urged other amateur golfers in the country to train harder and muster the courage to turn professional.

The manager at the Goldfields Golf Club, Rev. Akwasi Prempeh, who coordinated the entire competition, congratulated the golfers for their participation and display of discipline during the three-day tournament.

He also commended the staff and course workers of the Goldfields Golf Club, as well as the executives of the PGA, for their immense role in the success of the program.
