One day Golf competition ends at Winneba

Winneba (C/R) Aug. 27 GNA - Mr Daniel A. Annin of Achimota Golf Club became the overall champion with 63 net to win the One Day Golf competition at the Winneba Gyatekrom Windy Bay Golf Club Links on Saturday.

Mr Ibrahim Sunday also had 63 net but took the second position on technical points while Dr. Kofi Intsiful placed third with 64 net points.

The 18 whole President Putter Tournament was in honour of the Club's five year's existence.

Thirty-five Golfers from other sister Golf clubs in Accra participated in the competition including the current President of the Ghana Golf Association, Professor Ben George and the immediate past President, Mr. Michael Ezan.

Mr Kweku Ghartey Sam, President of the Windy Bay club, who addressed the participants thanked the participants for contributing to make the programme a success.

He said the Club is the youngest in the country and needed assistance to enable it develop and grow and therefore appealed to all interested Golfers to assist the executives make the Windy Bay club to rise up to the standard of the game.

In a speech read on his behalf, the Deputy Minister for Health and MP for Effutu, Mr Samuel Owusu-Adjei called on the youth to participate in golf as a way of exercising their bodies against sickness. Mr Ezan promised to help the Windy Bay Golf Club to move forward and presented two million cedis for the maintenance of the Gyatekrom field. Professor Ben George promised to host the 2006 national golf tournament at Winneba at a date to be announced later. Prizes were distributed to the deserving winners.
