Accra, June 30, GNA - This year's finals of the Peugeot Challenge Golf Championship tees off at the Achimota Golf Course in Accra on Saturday, July 2. Some 150 golfers, selected after the regional qualifiers would be taking part in the one-day 18-hole competition, which is being sponsored by Prestige Motor Company Limited (PMCL).
Mr Nich Adi-Dako, Managing Director of the Company, announced this at a Press Conference in Accra on Thursday. He said this year's event is a build-up on the company's commitment of contributing to the development of lesser-known sports in the country particularly golf.
Winners in the male and female categories would represent the nation at this year's International Peugeot Challenge Tournament scheduled for France in August. It would be the fifth time that Ghana would be represented at the luxurious competition meant for amateur golfers. Previous representatives include Suzie Kumasah of the Achimota Golf Club (2001,2002), Kweku Okyere (2003), Tema Country Golf Club, Robert Aziamakpor and Beatrice Vetch-Bempong (2004).
Mr Adi-Dako praised the previous winners of the competition for sustaining the positive image of the Ghanaian players at the International Finals in France. A range of new generation of Peugeot vehicles will be exhibited during the Achimota event.
