Sandra wins Girl-Child Golf championship

Tema, Sep. 19, GNA - Sandra Atsrah returned 27 net to win the Ghana Girl-Child Open Golf Championship played at the Celebrity Golf Course at Sakumono near Tema on Saturday.

Aba Badu took the second position with 37 net while Sylvia Botwe placed third also with 37 net losing on count-back.


John Mensah won the Youth event with 87 net when he beat F. Quarshie on count-back while L. Asante took the third position with 88 net also beating Z. Syeed on count-back.


Joseph Simpson won the Seniors Category with 70 net, Augustin Irabor came second with 71 net while Nana Owusu-Afari took the third position with 71 net.


In the Men's Scratch event, Charles Koomson came first with 71 gross followed by Robert Allotey in the second position with 72 gross while S.E. Essuman took the third position with 76 gross. Suzzie Kumassah won the Ladies Scratch with 84 gross with Florence Etwi-Barimah placing second with 86 gross while Esther Amedzro took the third position with 93 gross.

The one-day competition was organised to launch the Girl-Child Event on the calendar of the Ghana Golf Association.


The event was jointly sponsored by Multi-Choice Ghana Limited, Barclays Bank Ghana Limited, Air Liquide and Promasidor Ghana Limited. Mrs Elizabeth Ezan, President of the Ghana Ladies Golf Union (GLGU) said the Ghana Golf Association has set up a Sub-Committee charged with the responsibility of developing young golfers throughout the country.


She expressed the hope that young and interest golfers would work tirelessly and take their lessons seriously to develop their talents.
