Accra, March 1, GNA-All is set for the First Ghana Independence Open Golf Championship scheduled for the Achimota Golf Course in Accra from Saturday, March 3 to Sunday, March 4.
President John Agyekum Kufuor, who is the Special Guest of Honor, would take the ceremonial tee-off on Saturday, March 3. Mr Mike Ezan, President of the Achimota Golf Club, told GNA Sports in Accra on Thursday, that the two-day 36-Hole Scratch event, dubbed; 'The President's Cup' forms part of activities marking the 50th Anniversary celebrations of Ghana's Independence..
He said more than 100 golfers from Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, Senegal, Cote d'Ivoire, Sierra Leone and Benin are expected to participate in the competition which shall be played under the rules of the World's Golf governing body.
A visit to the Achimota Golf Course by the GNA indicated that preparations are far advanced for the club to host a memorable tournament, which is being organized in collaboration with the Ghana Golf Association.
All of the golfers GNA talked to expressed their battle readiness to lift the anniversary trophy for the first time in its inception, which would be a memorable occasion for them. President Kufuor will present the cup to the winner on Sunday, March 4.
