*G4S, the world’s leading international security solution group have staged
this year’s edition of their annual invitational golf tournament to raise
funds in aid of promoting the Community Police initiative in Ghana. A total
cash of GH¢16,275 (sixteen thousand, two hundred and seventy-five Ghana
cedis) was raised at a golf tournament that also saw auction of various
items including signed jerseys of players of the national soccer team, Black
Stars.*
‘A safe community is a concern for all,’ the theme of G4S says it all and
the security company with worldwide presence which has already organized
golf tournaments in Tarkwa and Takoradi to raise funds for charity, have
identified the community policing model project which is an initiative to
include communities in the work of the service, as a noble one worth
supporting.
The money realized was presented to the Police to support the planned
building of ultra-modern facilities to ignite the Community Police project
in all ten regions of the country. Making the presentation, Alno Crous,
General Manager of G4S, stated that the gesture forms part of the company’s
corporate social responsibility with the aim to touch the lives of many
families all over the world.
He added that G4s globally has* *been involved in various projects to
support the respective local law enforcement and especially community based
policing and has decided to extend its benevolence to Ghana. G4S will
therefore pay a balance to square up the cash raised to at least GH¢200,000
(two hundred thousand Ghana Cedis).
Mr. Crous also confirmed that when the police and citizens work together as
one, crime rate will be reduced within the various communities. That is why
G4S will present an additional GH¢2,000 to the Police to enhance their work.
The G4S General Manager concluded that involvement with the police is an
ongoing program to equip them for effective policing.
ACP Florence Arthur, Director, Community Policing Unit of the Ghana Police
Service who received the cheque, thanked G4S for the kind gesture and called
on other stakeholders to also come on board to assist the Police in their
work. “I therefore call for the involvement of all agencies and civil
society to support the Community Police unit for effective policing and
security across the nation,” Madam Arthur appealed.
G4S is a global leader in security solutions offering service to some of
Ghana’s biggest companies. The leading security company also solicited the
backing of many of their clients who variously made contributions as
supporting sponsors of the one-day invitational golf tournament.
These supporting sponsors include Stanbic Bank, Solmed Ghana Ltd, Virgin
Atlantic Airways Ltd which presented an Accra-London-Accra return ticket to
the Ghana Police Service and another return ticket of ACC-LON-ACC to the
winner of the charity prize draw, ABL for keeping the golfers and supporters
liquidated on the day. Telefonika for supplying four Blackberry phones as
prizes as well as Melcom Group for supplying several crates of whisky.
Accra Mall Ltd, Golden Beach Hotel Ltd, Leasafric Ghana, Ocean Rig, JGL,
Newmont Ghana Gold Ltd and Brooks Support Services were also sponsors.
Also present at the tournament which had over 40 golfers compete were a host
of dignitaries, amongst them the Deputy IGP, Mohammed Alhassan,
representatives of the National Security, various MD of companies and many
others. The Deputy IGP hailed G4S and their supporting sponsors for the
effort to support the Police.
In the golf tournament itself, the team of David Merethi, Leonard K. Okyere
who is captain of the Tema Country Golf Clubs hosts, Victoria Adjei and Nana
Antwi Boasiako won the first position and its accompanying grand prizes and
trophies with a stable ford point of 109.
They were followed in 2nd spot by the team of Leslie Garret, Johan Venter,
Roelf Kruger and Kieth Miller who ended with 101 stable ford points.
Kelvin Hall, Adriana Kwofie, George Osei and K.K. Adoo were third with 100
stable ford points.
4th place went to Peter Allan, Wouter Evers, Owusu Ansah and Dries Combrinck
with 94 stable ford points.
