“I hope to be Ghana’s first Pro lady golfer”, Afriyie

Ghana’s leading lady golfer Grace Afriyie hopes to turn professional within the next three years and with that, challenge for prize money on the international scene.

Currently, the nation has no lady golfer playing on the pro circuit and if Afriyie achieves that dream, she will become Ghana’s first.

“That is my dream and I have been working hard towards that for a couple of year’s now and would stop at nothing to make ambition come true”, she told this reporter.

In trying to achieve that, she first has to beat down her playing handicap of eight to force her way to the top ranks of the ladies game.

“I know this will not be easy”, she said, but is doing everything possible to achieve that.

“I have given myself three years to get there and that would require me doing away with some of the things that I currently do to focus more on the game.

She has to improve on many areas in her game and this is something she concedes wont come naturally without working on that.

The 2010 Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) best lady golfer predicts a great future for her as within the past 15 years that she has been playing the game, it has taken her places and has won her many awards.

The prospect of playing on the Pro tour has been a lifetime dream she said, and believes with the right attitude and sponsorship, she would get there.

There is very little individual sponsorship even in the men’s game in Ghana, the lack of it which has seen some promising talents go to waste without being fully developed.

Afriyie, the 2005 Ghana Open winner, will need a lot of it if she is to fulfill her dream of becoming a Pro golfer something she says will please her local idol Mona Captan who came close.
