Owusu captures Tigo biggest Prize

Tema based Enoch K. Owusu has moved his golfing career up a notch after he captured the biggest prize at the Tigo Tema Open in a grand fashion. Enoch returned a gross score of 146 to stay atop the leaderboard after a two-day golf encounter in the Men Scratch category.

In an occasion laced with abundant fun, golfing creativity and streak of prizes from Tigo, Enoch Owusu’s feat reechoed his long-standing claim of clinching the Open and other majors this year.

“I just relived a desire I have worked earnestly for, I hoped, I practiced and I have delivered.” He claimed. “Now that I have cleared one hurdle, my promise still remains that; I shall win the Ghana Open as well.” He added

Playing a course that favored power, notable strings of pars amidst birdies on holes 15 and 18 secured him 72 shots on day one. He continued the second round stride with an early charge, derailed by a bogey on hole 4 and a burst into contention with an eagle on hole 9.

“I shot 35 on the front nine; that’s quite a low number and am still excited about the eagle I sunk on hole 9.” He noted. He completed the round with 2 over 74 after bogey scares on holes 10, 11, and 13.

Achimota based Richard K. Mensah; coming from a jaw-dropping win at the Infinity Achimota Masters was four shot away from Owusu on a gross score of 150 over the two days. Peter K. Amenyo followed with one shot less for third place finish. In the Ladies category, Jessica Tei managed a fierce grapple for first place finish after beaten Grace Afriyie and Beatrice Vetsch-Bempong into second and third places respectively.

A Ghandour triumphed in the Men Handicap category on a total net score of 137 whiles Florence Etwi Barimah returned a total net score of 147 in the Ladies Handicap category.

Meanwhile in the Pros category, Emos Korblah won a cool GH¢1,800 for first place, runner up Vincent Torgah got GH¢1,200 and third placed E.K. Osei received GH¢800.

Tigo as usual was very expressive in their prize giveaways for winners in the various categories; 8 Tigo Tablets, 7 pieces of Blackberry Bold, 4 pieces of Blackberry curve and many Tigo souvenirs as well as 31 ‘unprecedented’ trophies for various winners in one event.

Captain of the Club, Dr. Owusu Baah, maintained that, the tournament to him was the biggest and most successful in the 11-year history of the Open. “We had over 200 amateur players, 35 professionals, 13 junior golfers; we had players from Togo, Ivory Coast and Nigeria. Dr. Owusu Baah noted.

General Manager of Tigo, Ghana Adil Youseffi noted in his remarks that, “Tigo have been an integral part of the game in Ghana, and our partnership with the Tema Golf Club has persisted for than a decade now. We are still excited to sponsor this year’s tournament.” MD of Tigo, Ghana corroborated on the assertion when he remarked that, due to the excitement that the event brings, Tigo intends to sponsor it God wiling the next 11 years.
