The Ghana Hockey Association (GHA) has communicated its warmest gratitude to the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) for honouring Ghana Hockey with 4 awards during the 28th Edition of the Association’s Awards Night.
In a letter to the SWAG, the GHA indicated that it was particularly encouraged that the Association recognized and awarded one of the leading sponsoring Institutions of the sport, a hockey administrator, a male player and for the very first time in the history of the Awards Night, a female player. The GHA expressed the conviction that conferring 4 Awards on hockey will bring to the fore the confidence SWAG has in the sport and its potential to bring honour to the country.
The GHA was hopeful that the gesture would encourage more organizations and individuals to sponsor the sport, a tonic that is so badly needed at this crucial time of its development efforts. The GHA was confident that the bold step SWAG taken with respect to women’s hockey in Ghana, will spur the young girls to take up the sport with the assurance that it is highly recreational and enjoyable as well as one that rewards excellence.
The GHA congratulated SWAG on the occasion of its 35th Anniversary and expressed the hope that the collaboration that the two Associations have established would be nurtured and utilized to the maximum benefit of the sport, its sponsors and players.
The GHA saluted all sportswriters, especially, those who have devoted their time and resources to report on the sport and the print and electronic media for being supportive of the development effort of the Association. Special mention was made of the Ghanaweb Internet Website, Joy FM, Radio Gold, Graphic Communications Group, GTV, TV3 and Metro TV among others.
