Multistix stun Marine Sticks:
Muiltistix Hockey Club put their uncharacteristic dismal performance in recent times behind them to produce a stunning 2-1 victory over title chasers Marine Sticks of Ghana Navy. The coach of the Mariners, who have enjoyed a good season so far in the competitive Pepsi Hockey League, predicted a total whitewash of Multistix after describing them as depleted and on a perpetual losing-streak.

The uncomplimentary comments from the Marine coach, was enough tonic for the Multistix men to approach the game with the will to win. Indeed, it took just 4 minutes into the game for reigning goal-king, Eric 'Dada' Mainoo to hit the backboard of the Mariners for the first goal after leaving their entire defense in his wake. After the goal, the game showed every sign that it would be very competitive. The physically fit and aggressive Mariners carried the game to their opponents and dominated the midfield exchanges. It came as little surprise therefore when National star, Eric 'Bobby' Sackey pulled level in the 10th minute after a blazing attack from midfield that involved his lethal partners of Edward Oblie and 2002 SWAG Player of the year Patrick Taylor. Marine dominated play for the rest of the first half but some excellent defensive work on the part of Japan-! based goalkeeper Ray Anakwa, Richie Akpokavie, Mark Quaye, Patrick Ampofo and Paa Kwesi Baffoe-Bonnie kept the score even. During the closing stages of the half, goalkeeper Anakwa was stretched off after pulling a dramatic point-blank save during one of the incessant raids on the Multistix goal. Patrick Ampofo abandoned his up-field role to take his place in goal and kept the Marine attack at bay till the end of the half.

Back from recess, Marine went in search of more goals. 2 minutes into the half however, Winfred Sackey stunned the Mariners with a Multistix classic from a penalty corner. The goal infuriated the Mariners who relied on their physical fitness to constantly run down the Multistix midfield and defense lines. Though Marine sticks created scoring opportunities in succession, goalie Patrick Ampofo and his defense and midfield men were excellent with Ampofo making some hair-raising saves to the admiration of the sparse crowd that watched the game.

In the other matches, defending champions and league leaders Exchequers of Bank of Ghana, struggled to beat Veterans 3-0, thanks to some midfield creativity 7 minutes from time.

Trustees struggled initially against Citizens leading 1-0 at halftime but found their rhythm in the second half to demolish the oldmen 7-0 to keep their title chase on track.

NDK Financiers romped home to a 6-1 victory over skillful Kingsticks, while CEPS made light work of Reformers who they subdued 5-1.

In the only ladies match runaway league leaders and 2002 African Cup bronze medal winners Extinguishers of Ghana National Fire Service, overwhelmed defending champions Reformers of Ghana Prisons 4-0 in a thrilling encounter.
