The 2nd round of the Beverage Investments Ghana Limited sponsored Greater Accra Pepsi Hockey League, pushed-off over the weekend with some exciting matches and interesting results in the Men's competition.
Trustees were tipped to run over debutants NDK Financiers in the first match of the day as they did in the first round when they pulverised their opponents 9-0 in the first competitive match of the Financiers. Tried as Trustees did however, they found in NDK Financiers a difficult team to handle on the day. After a scoreless first half, it was Financiers who shot into the lead in the 57th through Daniel Duplex from a penalty corner.
The goal shocked the entire Trustees team and prompted an unrelenting attack on the NDK goal area. It came as little surprise when William Cudjoe completed a penalty corner routine with a sizzling shot that rammed into the backboard of the NDK goal in the 60th minute.
Determined to carry the day despite the magnificent play o! f their opponents, Trustees kept probing for more goals and indeed got the second in the 63rd through enterprising Daniel Lamptey who dribbled past the entire defence-line of NDK to slot home from close range. When it looked like the game was heading for a narrow victory for Trustees, NDK popped-up with perhaps the biggest surprise of the day when they scored on the stroke of full time from a penalty corner converted by Emmanuel Ahadjie to end the game 2-2.
Multistix failed to take advantage of a 2-0 lead as rivals Citizens came back to draw level at the end of proceedings.
Veterans took an early lead in their game against Golden Sticks of GCB Limited only to succumb 1-6 to the youngsters. Exchequers of Bank of Ghana showed no mercy on Reformers thrashing them 9-0, while Marine Sticks run away 1-0 winners over CEPS.
