Accra, May 11, GNA - Norbert Amefu, former coach of the National Tae-Kwondo team, has expressed confidence in the ability of the team to excel at the impending All Africa Games in Algiers, Algeria. Amefu, who has been nominated by the World Teakwondo Federation for the Coach of the Year award (Africa Category) told the GNA Sports that the team was made up of "quality materials with a lot of fighting spirit."
The coach, who was in charge of the team at the 8th All African games in Abuja said it would only take a lot of commitment, slef discipline and good nutrition for the team to perform at the championship.
Amefu an Ex-U.S Police Special Force Officer, said though the team might encounter some difficulties from opponents from the French speaking countries, the Ghanaians had what it takes to over come such challenges.
"Most of the Francophone Teakwondo players compete at top World Championships and have a lot on interntional exposure but Ghana has always given them the needed competition and we are capable of repeating the same this time around."
He also advised all sports men and women preparing towards the games to disregard any form of difficulties they were going through at the moment and prepare psychologically, physically and emotionally to achieve their targets.
Coach Amefu was relieved off his duties recently by the Ghana Tae-Kwondo Association.
According Mr Samuel Quarshie Vice-Chairman of the Association the decision was to offer another coach the opportunity to prove his mettle.
"We have too many good Teakwondo coaches in Ghana and we hope the new coach will be able to bring us the needed medals."
